Re: Medtronic considering KC for relocation
http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/1439 1400 Jobs in during this recession would be a huge boost for the area. KC is in competition with San Antonio on this one. They are looking at the former Applebee's complex in Lenexa (which is strange because I thought the former Applebees office was on 4...

Re: MoDOT Ready to Go with Economic Stimulus Projects
Notice that STL got 87% to our 13%. I'm sure light rail costs may justify a bigger chunk of change for them, but that seems like a ridiculous difference in funding.

Re: MoDOT Ready to Go with Economic Stimulus Projects
Good article in the Times today about stimulus projects. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/us/04states.html?_r=1 It provides links to each state's project list as well. Missouri's: http://www.modot.org/firstinnation/documents/projectlist2.pdf Of significance to our metro: Platte County, Route 29 – ...

Re: just how shady is midtown, esp. main and broadway?
What happened to all of the refurbishments, some buildings going market rate, reduced section eight unit quantity, new management co promises we were hearing the last couple years? Last time I went through I thought it looked like several of the buildings were still being heavily worked on? I thin...

This place is definitely getting a tongue in cheek novelty night out visit from me and friends at some point in the near future. A little slice of Staten Island right here in KC! Seriously, though, however appalling I may find this sort of place, it is good to see another local offering catering t...

Re: M.B.A. and the GMAT Test
I'm keeping my options open after graduation from UMKC this fall and had a few questions. Hopefully someone here has some insight into this topic. 1) Has anyone taken the GMAT test? If so, how difficult was it? 2) What specific areas within the M.B.A. are in most demand? 3) Any suggestions on M.B....

Ate here this morning for the first time and, yes, the wait is out of control. 30+ min at 11am without room even to stand while waiting. Food was good though.

Re: YJ's Snack Bar
I tend to agree with TK. The Xroads is pretty far from becoming gentrified. There is still plenty of unused building stock and vacant retail/commercial space around. The property value surge has proven to be ill supported by demand and I would expect that building/land prices will correct themsel...

Re: YJ's Snack Bar
I've been in this place maybe five times both dressed in hipster-friendly garb and in full-on biz casual Sprint campus atire. I didn't get the feeling that people there were oozing disdain at having their space violated by a bouergouis invader in dress pants and likely a striped shirt (can't rememb...

Re: The Phoenix
Made my first return visit since it reopened. Had a Reuben which tasted about like every bar Reuben I've ever had: like I bought it at a bar. Which I did. The Phoenix is a bar. Drinks and jazz are and should be the focus. Glad to see it back; sure did miss it.

lipstick on a pig. we have read on this forum about how people never new when they were open / closed, chef driven decisions ( enough food to feed people, being cost effective to be open ) i am sure the food was fine at best, maybe even too good. again, food being top notch does not equal loengevit...

Re: Delaware Market Cafe
Went to happy hour last night with the (now former) GM of Delaware Cafe. He said that the owners really just didn't know how to run a restaurant. According to him, their food quality was never a problem, but chronic service problems and rookie staffing and finance mistakes were too much to overcom...

This forum seems much more tolerant when you are forthright with your shilling. Next time try something like: "hi, my name is _____. I just opened a new restaurant. Here is the info ______________. Please come give us a try . . . " Much more likely to get a warm welcome. Yes. Defam...

I've been to this place about five times total. It wasn't too bad the first two or three times, but had a small-time thuggish feel the last couple of times I was there; probably in the last year-ish. The only thing I ever really liked about the place was that they had an awesome DJ spinning on the...

Re: Cerner to cash in on Obama stimulas plan?
Keynes sure looks like a total dipshit right now. This is why we keep getting booms and busts in our economy. They will continue to get worse over time if we continue to follow his ideology. We will eventually inflate the currency until it has no value. Keynesian economics have been out of favor...

Scooters is on Walnut on NE corner of 9th or 10th & Walnut. The professional building, on Grand, has Jimmy Johns, a salon and used to have Perk Up, but they closed.
