Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
[quote="smh"]Speaking of relocating with incentives, it looks like AMC may be close to a sale to a Chinese corporation. I thought it was odd that the big banner marking the construction site in Leawood says "Support Center" instead of "World Headquarters". Why the (in m...

Re: Ward Parkway Center
Last time we went to a movie at Ward Parkway was before the renovation - they had security guards posted in our theatre, which was so out of control with people on cell phones, people getting up and moving around, talking, etc. We swore we'd never go back and now I'm hesitant to talk my other half ...

AMC seems to have the concept kind of "sewn up", in this market anyway. The two failed attempts at Zona Rosa would give any developer pause.kcjak wrote:I'm not convinced that Studio Movie Grill still wants to be involved since they left the market after a very short, failed attempt in Zona Rosa.

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
The developers have made it clear that the Walmart is the lynchpin to getting the project off the ground. Without the Walmart it ain't happening. I would almost argue the opposite - the Walmart is the only component that will be done (at least in a timely fashion). Even the movie theaters, which wou...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
Yeah, Schlitterbahm really needs an entrance that is nice, not the half-ass temporary one they have now. And I wonder if last summer's expansion (which I think never opened, at least not 100%) will be up and running this season? Finally, did they do any work over the 6+ weeks of mild weather recentl...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
How is "one story with some offices on the second level" not two stories? I just meant, is it a two story grocery store , or is just like a lot of large grocery stores where some of the store's offices are on an upper level? I don't think the Hy-Vee in this location is going to be some su...

Is the new Hy-Vee really two stories, or just one story with some offices on the second level? Anyone have a drawing of it?

Re: Organic grocery store chain to hit Overland Park
I'm sure it is a wish list. Books A Million ought to expand to somewhere in this area, as the closing of Borders left a big gap in the biz (Half-Price isn't the same animal at all). And the K-Mart building really needs to be torn down or heavily renovated. The interior reeks of 1980 (or before).

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Wouldn't be surprised if the only thing built for awhile is the Wal-Mart. Do you they have anyone lined up for the offices? I have to say I was actually sort of excited for the original development when it was pitched....now this is just terrible. Agree with all this. Ditto. It's very sad that it k...

Must mean they're wanting to convert part of the complex to a Fork & Screen operation, like at the Main Street and Olathe.KCMax wrote:Opposition to Ward Parkway AMC getting a liquor license?

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Yeah, I meant AMC the HQ. The movie theater, as it stands, is slotted for 8 screens. At one point they were talking about some kind of Fork and Screen concept, didn't hear that yesterday. Also, hinted that it might not ultimately be a movie theater but could be some other sort of entertainment dest...

I expect the next "shoe to drop" to be when they announce it will be built "in phases, with the Walmart being built first". Translation: the rest of it will still be years and years away from being built, if ever. And high-rise apartments/condos? Didn't the nearby residents kill ...

Agreed. It looks like a cheap multiplex theater. But we are talking about a casino after all, not a high-end retailer.KCMax wrote:You're being kind. I think it looks like crap.

Re: KC downgraded to third-tier convention city as biz dwind
I was recently in Indianapolis. Their downtown is so much more impressive (and they do have a shiny new glass tower - a Hilton hotel). Of course, the Super Bowl is there this year (can't see it EVER being in this town). If Crown Center and the Plaza were both right downtown then maybe things would b...

Re: Ward Parkway Center
I love how the article leaves the strong impression that the multiplex has been in the mall for 50 years - which is not remotely accurate. The current 14-screen theater was begun in 1992, if memory serves. It was originally 12 screens, then they added 6 tiny auditoriums on the lower level. Finally t...

Do you mean a headquarters like AMC or an actual movie theater? Which likely wouldn't work, with the Town Center 20 literally across the street.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Beginning to sound like this development just might attract another law firm or a movie exhibitor.

Anyone been by the site or to the park this summer? How is the expansion going? Saw some recent tripadvisor.com reviews that were very negative.

This will never happen. A Walmart on Mission Road? Yeah, right. Seriously, this is very, very unlikely. The NIMBYs would never allow it.
