Re: OFFICIAL - Second and Delaware
I wish we had more buildings built this solid. Particle board and 2x4's are flimsy fodder for tornadoes, fires, termites and rot. This thing looks like it's being built to actually last a few generations.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I still can't believe that nobody in the local press has reported on DeJanes's squatting in KCATA's right of way, nor that the pro-streetcar side are failing to make it known that their most noisome opponent is literally leading a political campaign to protect her commandeering of public property f...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Big surprise that Sherry DeJanes and CFRG have teamed up. Per Reddit , the address on the mailers is Sherry DeJanes's law firm, and she is registered as treasurer of Be Smart KC, the organization that sent them out. The videos hartliss linked confirm that, and make clear that CFRG paid for them. I ...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
One of my office coworkers is a young kid fresh out of college and voted for the Chastain plan on the last ballot. He is brand new to town and didn't know the history of Chastain's unrealistic plans and the old vendetta-driven shenanigans. Similarly, I myself naively voted for the 2006 initiative wh...

Re: New Broadway Bridge
It looked to me like they were putting curbs in place that would prevent all but the center lane on westbound 5th from trying to go across the intersection. The outside lanes are supposed to be for turning north or south on Broadway, but every once in a while I'll see someone in a turn lane abruptly...

Gross, a ham aged that long would be mighty tough. I'll just get one out of the replicator.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
people are being drawn from a few blocks away where there are lots of residents and workers who might not normally venture to/across main. it's easy to downplay the north loop stop, but there is residential on all three sides of that sea of surface parking. my friend at the view -- who said he woul...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I don't understand why Sue has hung her hat on being the face of the opposition for this project. I know some small business owners, and they have a generally scrappy attitude, always looking to network for new connections and turn anything that happens into an opportunity. I don't get that vibe fro...

Re: Three Light
I do like the fact that they varied the height of Four Light in this latest rendering--making it taller, and also both Three and Four are drawn with slightly more complex roof lines, departing from the flat boring rectangle of One and Two--which helps break up the visual monotony to my eye. Also it ...

Re: The KC City Flag
I watched this TED Talk this morning and it reminded me of this forum's discussion about the KC flag. https://www.ted.com/talks/roman_mars_why_city_flags_may_be_the_worst_designed_thing_you_ve_never_noticed?language=en Mayor Sly James recently remarked about people around the country starting to wea...

Re: Savoy Hotel to undergo $25 mil gut/resto
Commerce / Tower Properties has much more parking at this point than ever actually fills up during the day. With the local economy reasonably strong and downtown redevelopment in particular zooming along, it's bizarre to me that they aren't parting with even one or two small parcels in the north loo...

Re: 1515 Gennessee - West Bottoms
I wish KCK would do something about their nasty sewer plant. I frequently cross into Kansas on I-70 for work and that smell usually hits me right as I see the sign for the Kansas state line, although some days are worse than others. It doesn't exactly say "welcome to Kansas."

New York Life building, trapped cat
While walking home from Milwaukee Deli this evening, I noticed loud meows coming from a window well on the southwest corner of the New York Life building at 9th and Baltimore. I turned the flashlight on my iPhone on, peered down through the bars and saw a pair of glowing green eyes way down in the d...

Re: Possible future multi-use development
You're absolutely right about the potential ADA issue with the stairs in the entrance--I had forgotten about those. Parking: I can see this building from my window, hence I frequently wonder what will eventually become of it--I really think that the little lot immediately behind 600 Central goes wit...

Re: Possible future multi-use development
This building has been listed for sale from time to time over the past few years. It is at the north edge of the Garment District in downtown. It housed the "Oggi" modern furniture store for many years, which closed up shop when the economy slowed down. More recently it had a second brief ...

Re: Uber/Lyft ride-sharing in Kansas City
I just saw 2 police cars pull over one of the Lyft vehicles (a gray Honda Fit) in a parking lot on the west side of Broadway between 12th and 13th. I wonder if they had a legitimate reason, or if it's the start of a crackdown?
