NHL predictions after season cancelled.

I believe one of the reasons the league average was low had to do with the size of the arenas back then. Up until Kemper opened they did play in Muni with its 9,000 seats and that might have be the size of many of the arenas, especially the older ones. Especially during the 70's there was a major bu...

KU doesn't make it past the second round of the NCAA. {SIGH.....} See, this is exactly the problem with internet idiots: they can spout off their views w/o ever being held accountable. It would be so, so much more interesting if you were willing to put $10 on this prediction. You won't of course, b...

However, all 30 teams would have to accept the offer and that is very unlikely. The offer could be modified later to include only those teams willing to sell but I would think that the buyers would have to have a large majority of the teams with some kind of revenue sharing agreement with the others.

keep in mind, it was never designed to be a concet venue, so it can't be expected to be the ideal place for one. That is so very true. Remember, the arena was built in the 30's. They had no way of knowing what concerts would be like 70 years later. And rock and roll concerts up to the early 70's we...

I am talking about neighborhood schools close to downtown proper, either within the loop and within walking distance. That, to me, would be serving doowntown much like 50 to 60 years ago.

I personally believe that tenure should be suspended for K-12 teachers. Why should school teachers not be fired if they don't meet measurable expectations? Almost every other working person does. In poor-performing schools especially, tenure should be suspended. Teachers that consistently don't get...

Municipal Arena has always been bad for concerts, unless you had one of the best sound men touring with some of the best sound equipment around. Unless, of course, all that you were interested in was volume. Doesn't matter how good your equipment and operator are, if the room is to reverberant you ...

Block Grant Program and Bush budget cuts

Highways and airports come with their own taxes - they are not part of the government general fund. Block grants come from the general fund meaning income taxes and similiar items. The general fund expenditures are way short of the general fund revenues. Most, if not all, of the special funds of the...

Sorry, we're moving forward, this can't do attitude was left with the older generation. This older generation did build KCI Airport, Bartle Hall, Kemper Arena, the Sports Complex and provided assistance on flood control for Brush Creek and Blue River. So we do not have a "can't do attitude&quo...

Block Grant Program and Bush budget cuts

Block grants should be written out of the budget. Why should the feds be involved with local problems, development, and so on. These are areas that should be handled by locals or states. All that block grants and similiar programs are are pork, something for the politicians to say they are doing som...

Also, Ticketmaster shows an ice layout as one of the seating plans for Municipal. I think a hocky game would be great in there. This facility has not had an ice event since Kemper opened in 1974. To do hockey would be very expensive. Dasher wall, benches, ice making equipment, etc. The current floo...

To talk about the Kings attendance. The numbers above were tickets outstanding, not the number of people in the stands. Also, the Kings averaged of 2,000 comps per game year after year. To keep their costs down they did tradeouts, giving tickets to vendors instead of cash for payment. Also, for seas...

The Kings were sold because the local ownership group did not have the money in the pockets in the new free agency era of the league. And no other locals were willing to buy the team. The owners knew they were in over their heads when other teams were signing players to annual salaries that were gre...

Well, FANG, where would you put the schools? For downtown to get to the numbers projected you will have to have families. And families need schools. Not being derogatory but most, if not all, of the planning I have seen for downtown has not included children. And families with children will be neede...

One of the attractions of living downtown is the ability to walk to work. However, if you have a family what good is that if you have to drive your kids back and forth to school. When I posted earlier about schools downtown I was talking about within the loop or just outside. And if you want downtow...

The current people involved with this project just might be in over their heads. How long has this project been out there? Fund raising takes time but maybe this is too big of a dream. Not sure what the latest construction rate of inflation is but let's say it is from 3% to 5% per year. That means o...

KSU did an 8 also.

I guess all us KU fans sure are so into watching our "rivals."

KC, in general, seems totally uninterested. Bring on the NBA.
NBA does worse.

Families living downtown

Good discussion about families and downtown. The reason I brought it up was before the 50's or maybe even the 60's and 70's I believe there were around 5 public elementary schools in the downtown vicinity. That would mean there were quite a few families with kids. Different time and different lifest...
