Roasterie Expansion Update

From The Roasterie's latest newsletter: "We received several hundred letters and phone calls regarding the possibility of purchasing the Folgers plant. We toured it, studied it, discussed it with the current owner as well as several stakeholders downtown, but ultimately came to the conclusion t...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

I don't know why anyone would believe that. The price tag on franchises keeps going up, not because people are eager to own "community assets" but because there is obviously some money to be made. Sure its also an ego boost, but no one is going to lose millions of dollars just so they can...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

Are any NHL franchises turning a profit year after year? If so, apparently they're a rarity because the former owners of the Thrashers said today, "We knew when we purchased the club in 2004, that professional sports teams are seldom, if ever, money-making investments but rather vital community...

Re: 39th Street Condos

But who choose to stay and expand?  Original owners?  2nd owners?  3rd owners?  When were they expanded.  As I said many houses were expanded up to the 70's but it has been my observation that afterwards people moved instead of expanding. All good questions. In the case of Levittown, it was a mix o...

Re: 39th Street Condos

I think one of the biggest changes is the aspect that for a period of 20 to 30 years or so people found it easier and/or cheaper to move instead of building on or converting space. But Levittown residents had a comparable selection in Suffolk County, yet those chose to stay and expand. They could s...

Re: 39th Street Condos

Older neighborhoods that have similar houses that were built at the same time in volume by a builder tend to be less cookie cutter over time.  After decades, people change the appearance of their homes adding porches, different roofing, changing out windows and doors, siding, etc. I've always wonde...

Thanks. My SUV lost two windows while parked at Lambert. The airport and surrounding areas looked like a war zone.

STL: Do employers follow employees to the suburbs?

Re: Where to live in the metro

In Lees Summit I don't think anyone has to walk and no one is allowed to bike. What happened to healthy kids? Also, its a half mile from the main road to the back of my neighborhood. Why does the bus have to tour through the whole neighborhood? Have everyone just get up to the main road, healthier ...

Fairway....perfect place to live to enjoy the amenities but not pay for them. When I lived there, I wish I knew that I could have avoided sales taxes, parking fees, etc. whenever I was in KCMO. And I shudder to think how much I could have saved by getting into Royals and Blades games instead of buy...

Re: Apple's new hardware

For a couple of years, I've been able to get 50 Mbps service but have never upgraded from 20 Mbps even though I work from home and thus write off whatever the cost is. I just don't need the bandwidth. Now if Google or one of its partners came to me with an over-the-top video service where I could pa...

Re: Apple's new hardware

I think we are underestimating how many people would love to give someone other than their cable company money for fast internet.  That's not what surveys by In-Stat and other analyst firms are finding. Sure, they might like to switch providers, but they also generally are unwilling to pay more tha...

Re: KCMO to get Google Fiber too...

One big wild card is the amount of fiber that Google plans to lay versus how much it will lease from other operators. If Google leases a lot, then the operators they buy from would benefit because Google is subsidizing their infrastructure upgrades. For example, if TWC lays a bunch of fiber to meet ...

Re: KCMO to get Google Fiber too...

I understand data mining only from a very high level. I'd like to see a description of how it works as a revenue model, including how much a third party might be willing to pay for this or that snippet of information. Also, does data mining's revenue potential vary by demographic quality (e.g., inco...
