Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

There is one main reason that will seperate the PAC from the disney hall and put it in an elite class. The location. The backdrop of downtown behind it, makes it much more dramatic. Now I agree that putting up this building will not automatically make KC famous the world over, but its an important p...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I agree. Having a landmark such as this will bring more people and events to the city, even if its not arts related. It builds the city's reputation internationally.

Re: Downtown baseball still alive?

The reason the chiefs are apart of the discussion is that if the R's leave the complex, the Chiefs will most likely not be happy with just renovations. id sure hate to see the chiefs leave arrowhead but i might do it if meant downtown baseball. if the chiefs leave and go to kck, it will probably mea...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I was thinking there was planned retail development on the south end of the PAC grounds. At least thats how it looks in the renderings. No matter what, the whole area is only going to get better and better. The PAC and P&L will serve as magnets for all kinds of cool stuff that will fill up empty...

Re: Downtown baseball still alive?

its not just an attendance bounce, it is also about how it props up the neighborhood around it. Thats whats in it for the city. But I also agree that being downtown isnt a cure all for attendance. There will be an automatic boost when a new ballpark opens. If the team is bad it will lessen increment...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

The city just needs to have the streets between the PAC and the P&L be well landscaped and well lit. There will be plenty of people who will come to the PAC and then just go home. But I think that there will be a large segment who get used to having all this cool stuff down there and will make a...

Re: Downtown baseball still alive?

kcdcchef is right in that the K is a wonderful park and would be even better if renovated. however I think there is a much more important question to ask: What is best for both the city and the royals. The answer is downtown for several reasons. First off, the royals would benefit from a better atte...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I dont think the walking between the PAC and P&L will be a big deal at all. In fact, the PAC at 16th st. is closer than it would have been at the Lyric. The other factor is that with this building we are creating an international landmark. Each of the resident organizations in the building will ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I think the Lyric building is pretty cool on the outside. It the inside for me thats the problem. Even if you renovate it doesnt change the structure and the fact that it has bad acoustics. Second, its not big enough.

Re: April 4 election for stadium renovations?

Although I would be in favor of a downtown stadium (i like the north loop site connecting it to the river market), I wont be upset if the K gets renovated. The fountains, the view are as good as any in baseball. If the team wins, the atmosphere will come back. Also, there is no way I would ever want...

Re: Should we build a downtown stadium?

I think the main question we should be asking is what is the best solution long term for both the city and the team. While I think the K is a beautiful place to watch a game, the obvious answer is downtown. A ballpark downtown would make the R's more financially stable than renovations.  For the cit...

Re: OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

I want to see a downtown ballpark as much as anyone, but the hilltop space should stay for the PAC. I see putting money into the Lyric the same as when we decided to remodel Kemper Arena several years ago. The lyric is currently a horrible venue which might become ok with renovations. Why should we ...
