Is it's still being discussed as a W flagged hotel? Any height estimates?

Re: We need a new airport!!!

A few weeks ago I commented on a KC Star article about needing a new airport. I mentioned how unsafe it is being able to pull a vehicle up that close to the building/gates. It'd be more unsafe to have a central security area, that anyone could enter, full of hundreds of passengers waiting like duck...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Crazy to think these buildings wouldn't have been designed with backup utilities . It wouldn't matter given that the problem (A broken water main) is beyond the scope of the local buildings utility infrastructure. The misconception that having backup utilities for the building itself would avert an...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Again, it's 38 non stop destinations when you look at the metro area level No probably about it. You meant to say 41.. Which puts us on par or ahead of larger, more touristy cities like Austin TX, New Orleans, Sacramento (Only 27 destinations!), San Antonio (32), Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Milwaukee...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Well KCI used to have typically 80-100 non-stop destinations when we had Vanguard, now it's under 50 (probably below 40 markets) because no airline wants to use KCI as a hub given crappy terminal layout. No, this is because of mergers, code sharing, and hot-swap assignable gates. Which is exactly w...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Please source the 90% stat It's been well documented in this thread, among others that connecting PAX account for just 5-10% of all travelers at KCI in an average year. That has been a steady trend for the last 35 years. It makes you wonder..should we really rebuild an entire airport at a cost in t...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Frankly, I think most Kansas Citian's ultimately will approve a new terminal once they truly believe that airport users would pay for the terminal; and not their taxes. Given that 90% of the airports users ARE Kansas City area residents, your statement that KC area residents taxes won't pay for the...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I'm a bit bewildered by the rhetorical Rube Goldberg machines several of you are trotting out to deny and excuse what is obvious: closing Terminal A vastly worstened the experience of flying out of KCI, period. ..they pretty obviously did it to shift the public perception needle for a new terminal....

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What's the difference between an airport with flights to lots of hubs and being a hub? It's if one or many airlines provide the service. Hubs have higher ticket prices and a lack of flights on competitors planes (Since it's a hub for one airline). Less overall options and more profiteering from the...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I had my worst experience ever at KCI this week. Late afternoon flight out of B37 (Southwest). Had to use the restroom past security, which I don't think I've done for a while and I was truly disgusted. It reeked of urine. There were puddles of urine and splashed water from sinks everywhere. Speaki...

Re: Three Light

"Hastily conceived"? I first saw drawings of what would become One Light 8 years ago. Exactly my point. The fact that you first saw these exact same towers in an overnight presser that was whipped up in ten minutes almost a decade ago, and the fact that the designs haven't changed one iota from tha...

Re: Three Light

We all know you're not a fan of the "glass wall" but I'd say you're in the minority. From a developers perspective I'm not sure why they'd want their buildings to not be obvious sister buildings. I think that although you can tell one and two light are related, they're very difference and avoid bei...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

This gal does a great job of putting KCI into perspective: http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/community/joco-913/joco-diversions/article154767429.html Good editorial. It basically says what I've been saying here for years - KCI's convenience is mythical and overplayed. Go walk on the people mover...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

I still can't believe that nobody in the local press has reported on DeJanes's squatting in KCATA's right of way, nor that the pro-streetcar side are failing to make it known that their most noisome opponent is literally leading a political campaign to protect her commandeering of public property f...

I thought some would find this Saturday picture from Justin Meyer interesting. The line is back further than you can even see. Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel

To clarify flyingember's misleading post, the city is contributing grants, tax abatements, and financing worth more than half the cost of this project. This is a public project, period. And we are getting this in return. Everyone at City Hall who helped to make this project happen should be ashamed...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Good stuff - thanks for sharing. My wife flew out on Frontier yesterday afternoon and said the airport was the worst she's ever seen it. She felt like she was in a cattle pen - no where to sit, couldn't walk without bumping into people, and it took her a great deal of time to find her friend that h...

Re: OFFICIAL - Power & Light Apartments

I think it's a marketing problem. How many people do you know who even have the slightest clue that the P&L Building has gone residential, and then how few even realize that they have new attached apartments that they're renting? Compare that to how many people know about One Light, or Two Light, or...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner

I drove past this development last weekend...wow, what a god awful waste. I can't believe a billion dollars worth of subsidies will be sunk into this place. It also looked like they had a controlled access checkpoint set up at 87th and Hillcrest. Is all of that publicly funded infrastructure now pr...
