Re: Westside happenings

Still alive. I have been seeing a number of docs showing up on Compass related to this project. I believe the retail/mixed-use portion of the project has been nixed, but it's going forward as residential.

This project is now called Dorset Apartments and will be 55 and over senior housing (I don't recall that ever being mentioned before).

Van Trust has a contract to purchase the apartment building at 10th and Holmes and plans to tear it down. This is from the minutes for last month's LCRA meeting: 8. Re: Troost developments

No retail for this project. I believe the Botwin development for SW and SW corners of 27th and Troost is stalled. I think it was supposed to be mixed-use. Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham

Here is an interesting plan for infill at 32nd and McGee (currently vacant lot/community garden). It is for a "cottage community" with 4 "cabins". I wonder if the plan is to use these for Airbnb.

Re: Westport

The north side of Westport Rd between Holly and Wiedenmann (just north of the old Berbiglia that was torn down for the new QT) is rumored to be torn down for apartments. The owner of the salon in one of the houses said they were being forced to move, and when I asked for more details she said they ...

Re: Troost developments

I just noticed in Compass KC that a replat application has been submitted for 2501 Troost. This is the site where Andrew Brain had proposed the twin towers. I don't see a lot of info available, but it does say 242 units. The original proposal included 350 units, but it is no surprise that it would ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

According to a Business Journal article on endangered buildings the Christian Scientist church is to be torn down and replaced with a 13 story office tower. Would be a loss for the human scale along 47th and create a blocky wall on the north side. I noticed HKC had applied for historic designation ...

Re: Light Rail Systems And Routes In Other Cities

The roll out of the St Louis Loop Trolley really has been a shit show. After years of delays, they finally had the ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday, but couldn't start service due to snow (I guess that part was just bad luck). Service started today, but only with two cars running a shortened route ...

Re: Various restaurants coming to City

That name comes off as cheesy, but hopefully the food won't be as Anglicized. It would be good to have a Mexican chicken option a little closer. I'm not sure why some of the KCK/Independence Ave Mexican joints don't look at expanding into more gringo neighborhoods. I think if some place like El Poll...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

For the most part, those lots are pretty narrow. I think they may have to get variances to even build back a single family home. They would have to be be townhouses to increase the density, and even then, fitting three on two lots might be tough.
