Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
Muehlebach needs to reopen as a hotel. It’s more of a stereotypical historic NYC hotel than anything in NYC at this point. Should be our most famous hotel. Marriott runs historic properties, so why not reopen it as one of their boutique historic style properties? It can still be interconnected to th...

I thought 3 light was commanding downtown LA -level prices? Per the 3 light thread. A residential/mixed use skyscraper in downtown KC would probably kill it, we just have a breed of developers in this city that are roughly 40 years behind the present and won’t test the waters until they’ve had a do...

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
I have not heard that access to I-70 from HOA would be eliminated? That would just end up with trucks exiting on some other loop exit and going through loop surface streets to get to HOA and NKC industrial areas adjoining Burlington. Or maybe they’ll get smart and just use the bond bridge? I’m not ...

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)
I think a specific peculiarity is how little has developed along the existing streetcar line over the 7 years it’s been running. Some rehab, some new businesses, but still huge swaths of parking lots and undercooked urban spaces around the stops. And with a wildly successful streetcar at that

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
Yeah I mean they live there, you'd think they would figure it out. It's a weird neighborhood. I think it’s probably in the same vein as city market vendors being freaked out by the streetcar and buildings replacing parking. Could it be a big improvement? Sure, but in their minds there’s a huge unan...

Columbus park and the river market should be one cohesive neighborhood, as it once was. Imagine if there was an offramp bisecting the french quarter of NOLA? Nobody would stand it

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)
It’s really weird to me that KC was able to do Union Station, WWI Museum, Power and Light District, and the Kauffman Center, all in little over a decade; but now a decade later we’re struggling to do anything. Did the city get poorer somehow? Those are all civic projects except for P&L. The Kau...

I wish we had some sort of monuments program for historic churches so that they could be maintained as historic sites. It would probably be argued to conflict with separation of church and state or something, but it’s just wild how many of these buildings KC has lost just within my memory.

Re: Kansas City Needs a Proper Christmas Market
I know I brought up union station in the last thread, but now I think city market area would probably fit the best for this. It’s the Old Market in the Old Town down by the river, with quite a bit of historic architecture around. It could also give the market a boost during the winter months

If the courts stay they must become fully public courts. Not a tennis center operated by Genesis or whatever is going on now. Make em like the Loose courts or scrap em
