Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-betwee

It’s true that Hallmark is not selling the number of cards they used to and the card business is stagnating. And although earnings have been down for the last few years, that is compared to earnings in the years before. When you can print a card for less than 10 cents and sell it wholesale for a dol...

Re: High Dive on 39th

Ran into a friend of ours that bartends Mondays at the Hi/Dive, so Nancy and I tried it last night. We had the short rib tacos and some chicken wings. Another person at the bar was having the corned beef sandwich and said it was great. Our food was very tasty and the selection of beers is very diver...

Re: Thailand 2012-onward

I remember the water festival from my days at Ubon Ratchathani. I was at the RTAF base there in 1971. Us GI’s got a little carried away and went way beyond the sprinkle of water for good luck in the upcoming raining season. It was all great fun. The air base is now their airport. Many towns in Thail...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Here's an email I received a couple of days ago. Bummer. Hello, Thanks for your interest in Google Fiber in Crown Center. We wanted to send you a quick update on the progress. There are some extra steps for apartments and condominiums, so it’ll be a few months before you’re using Google Fiber in you...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I don't know what our number was but yes it was really high. Curyy management handle the conversations and Google appeared to be a little high handed about the entire operation. At any rate they were installing the fiber in the ground at our Main street driveway today and i have my new smart tv with...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

Cknab1, do you know if the agreement is now a boilerplate, or are they customizing each document to the building in consideration?
I don't know it for a fact, but I am sure it will be 90% of each condo or apartment contract. They admitted they are new to this and really learned quite a bit f...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

At Santa Fe Place, we need to choose our plan by Monday, March 25th. It took quite a while for Google and our management company to come to terms as far as the physical aspects of getting the cable into the building and into each condo. Our maintenance guy told me Google’s first draft was so open en...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I just happened to stop at fiberspace on Thursday. Mainly because we are getting Google Fiber at the end of the month and I am also shopping for a new TV to replace our 12 year old Toshiba. As smh noted, a lot of the TV’s I’ve looked at included 3D because I want to buy a smart TV. I really didn’t c...

Re: Water.org

I talked to them a little once I realized how involved I was going to become with the fresh water wells in Cambodia. This was maybe in 2008. They weren’t that interested in my little project and basically wanted me to donate to their cause. Which is fine. But my wife and I are happy with our little ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I flew from LAX to Dubai last October and will vouch for Emirates. I was in coach and it wasn’t as bad as some other long distance flights. But no doubt, 16 ½ hours would have been much nicer in business class. I walked by those seats when I arrived in Dubai. Nice!

Re: beer.

I've been a few times, always a great tour. I haven't met a bad tour guy yet. I would suggest going during the week as the production lines are running. That may be the engineer in me but I like watching the beer being filled and packaged. Can't beat the free beer at the end of the tour of course.

I did restaurant week at Fogo last night. My meat quota, which is pretty high, is maxed out for a day or two. But it won't be long. Let me know what you think of the meal.

Just heard that they have added a dish to the menu called "the Austrian Farmers Plate" that was described as f*ing unbelievable. Count me in.
That sounds great, I'll have to try it after restaurant week.

Re: Grunauer - Austrian restaurant in Freighthouse District

we have been going to grunauer a lot recently. usually occupying the seats at the south end of the bar. i think they really have something great here - cozy old-world (and old-KC) environment, delicious food and some of the best cocktails in KC. we went recently and i had the schnitzel "a la g...

If they would only do that. I love taking the Max to the Plaza from Crown Center but it’s just a drag going to the City Market.

Re: Grunauer - Austrian restaurant in Freighthouse District

I like the way they change the menu slightly from time to time. It helps keep it fresh and I like trying new items, and yet somehow they keep all the favorites. I’ve learned to ask what the seasonal sausages are during that week. Some of those just make me want to buy a box from them to take home. A...

Re: Downtown for Retirees?

Sounds great. How does the price compare to other downtown upscale places like (e.g.,) Union Hill? My wife and I have been intrigued by the place although we've never been in them. Santa Fe is the low rise? What's the tower called? What are the amenities other than location?
Santa Fe Place i...
