Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much payroll you figure Tampa will be willing to bring on at the deadline?  NY? BoSox? Rumor has it Tampa is a sleeper in the CC Sabathia sweepstakes.  Anyway, deadline acquisitions are overrated to begin with.  Take a look at the deals that went down last year -- Red Sox dealt for Eric Gagne...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tampa's probably not even going to get a wild card birth?  They're on pace for like, 96 wins.  They're currently a half game behind the Red Sox.  If they don't collapse, they will absolutely make the playoffs.  The Yankees are nothing this year.  They spent the first two months of the season in last...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

I didn't think you were being sarcastic or combative although I can take a bit of that just fine. I actually was speaking of ALL areas-burbs as well as cities getting rid of special treatment by governments. Actually I'm pretty dumb about what (if any) subsidies go to what areas for what things. As...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, a few days ago I told KC-wildcat to temper his expectations when he called for the Royals to sweep the Rockies and take at least two of three from the Giants.  I guess that I stand corrected here.  Hopefully the Royals can take the weekend series against the Cardinals too -- and hopefully this...

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?

That's my opinion. What subsidies do you pay now? Well, the most obvious is that my gas taxes help pay for freeways that I don't use so that people in the suburbs can conveniently access other parts of the city (often including their places of employment); in KC this goes beyond just freeways, sinc...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about all the pessimism toward the Indians.  They're not doing great this year, but like MD pointed out, they do have a +14 run differential (compared to KC's -47), and that's even in spite of Sabathia struggling through April to the tune of a 7.76 ERA.  The Royals got pretty unlucky wi...

Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion. I have never dissed your choices nor shown any disdain for them. If you want my "disdain opinion"-I'll give it to you in simple terms (in no particular order): **EVERYONE - individuals as well as entities should pay their own way. No TIF, n...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I'm on the same page re: the Cards being over-rated due to leagues.  But still, I bet we'd finish behind them if we shared a division.  They have a better team IMO.  And most of this decade, it was 25 games better. And that bet is based on...what?  That the Cardinals have been successful so fa...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as we're doing favors for the Cubs, I wonder if they might be able to get me a few home runs and stolen bases out of Fukudome and Theriot.  My fantasy team would really appreciate it.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was huge to sweep STL.  But, in this approaching homestand, it is going to be really interesting to see whether we can build on that success and put ourselves back into the middle of the Central.   CO - worst team in NL - we need a sweep SF - 4th worst team in NL - we need 2/3 If we take care ...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So when people say the Royals are like a AAA team, is that better or worse than the National League?

Re: Normally I root for the Royals, but not this or next week

I just have one reply...  10 World Series Championships. I don't mean to turn this into some pissing match between the Royals and the Cards, but I do think it's worth pointing out that the Royals have been around for 39 years and the Cardinals have been around for 126.  That the Cards won eight Wor...

Re: Chiefs

Croyle last year had a higher passer rating, completion percentage, and fewer INTs than either Eli or Peyton Manning in their first six starts. Or John Elway or Troy Aikman in their first six starts for that matter. Which isn't to say Croyle has any hope of being anywhere near as good as any of tho...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a 1-0 loss in extra innings and you're gonna pin it on the bullpen?  God knows the bullpen has had its issues lately, but this broken record whining after every game is getting tired.  Does the offense receive no blame for failing to plate a run in ten innings?

Re: Population density statistics

This is the first site that I found on Google: http://www.city-data.com/city/Kansas-City-Missouri.html You can scroll down a bit and there's a list of zip codes; clicking on any of them gives you the census data, including population density, for the zip code.  Ignatius or someone else might know a ...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great as Soria is, did anyone not see this blown save coming from a mile away?  The guy has been practically untouchable all season and it had to end sooner or later -- an 11-10 shootout with the Yankees was an all too obvious scenario.  Hopefully the Royals can pull out the win in extras now.

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strong outing by Davies tonight.  6.2 IP, 1 ER.  Only 3 K, but only one walk, and pretty efficient with his pitches.  Royals have only scored two runs to support him, but he's in line for the win assuming the bullpen doesn't give it away (not necessarily a safe assumption anymore).  His last start, ...

yes. i remember my friend's 1991 BMW had one (analog) and it was fascinating to try and make it top out! why not mandate it? I've got the same thing in my car (92 BMW, so probably virtually identical to your friend's car), a little gauge with my gas mileage.  I think it really does help to a certai...
