Re: What "hole" would you fill downtown?
Correct. I always thought the BoE, not the library, should have struck a deal with a developer. Win for the BoE, win for downtown. Now the BoE is gone - not to a bad place - but gone from downtown.

Re: What "hole" would you fill downtown?
I have always thought they should have tried to strike a development deal like the public library did on the Plaza: provide land in return for office space in new construction.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
The Plaza' s change from neighborhood center started long before Highwwods. The replacement of Sears with Seville Square, the creation of the row of shops across the street for high end retail such as Gucci, the loss of the bowling alley and, I think, a dime store for Saks all predated Highwoods by ...

Re: Unlocking Crossroads surface lots
KC officials - elected and employed - prove again and again that they have no understanding of the need to make individual development decisions in the light of long term goals. There never seems to be a game plan.

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment
The story I heard is that Columbus Park neighbors decided that the scale of this development project should conform to the existing height and density of Columbus Park, and communicated that to the LCRA and to the developer. This development is a strange response to that request. A few buildings su...

Business Journal, 6/29/16: “As you’re aware, we have a partnership with VanTrust, and we are actively working with them to explore opportunities for development in (East Village),” Chaudry said. “But we are not at a point where we’re ready to launch something. We are still in the due diligence phase...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
While I think the east side made a generational fuck-up in 2014, I respect the clear mandate of voters (and by default, non-voters there) to determine just how bleak the future of the east side will be. East side pastors objected to the fact that eastsiders were being asked to pay for the east-west...

Re: Cop killing now in vogue, once a week lately
This site lists the number of policemen killed by year starting in 1791. Some surprising stuff, especially when you take the size of the population into account.

In Bizjournal, 7/14: "Block said the developers are considering an expansion that would add about 50 more units." No comment on whether that would be up or out, if there's even room for out.

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
Given the populist political winds in KC - everything the City does is a backroom conspiracy to benefit the wealthy in the Market to Plaza corridor - I think encouraging a grass roots effort makes sense.
