Re: Uptown Shoppes

Someone needs to tell them that isn't how investment works. You can't just sit on large swaths of undeveloped land and dilapidated buildings and expect to get a decent return on your investment. Property values won't go up unless development happens, but they are preventing that.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

Most of the time, it is hard to tell if the city leadership lacks vision or is just pragmatic and realistic about the voter base... but on this Amazon thing, you've got to go all out. The riverfront is easy because it is shovel ready, but it is far from an ideal location. After I heard about some of...

Re: Main Street MAX

Because Cerner isn't a democracy, and the CEO (who's preferences were probably a good part of why they have a suburban campus) is dead. And because we actually want people to ride the bus, and Cerner has a lot of people. I get the tendency to want to exclude people from a service that they didn't wa...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Google thing? I think the over arching transit goal was to double the number of jobs accessible by public transit and use transit to build the city of the future. Then they said they have a partnership with Google that is transit related New urban mobility platform. Only a few cities chosen. Detail...

It may be extra vague because they don't know or can't say what the Google thing is.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Also, if they put a row of townhomes on the Pennsylvania side that would ease people's minds. They could probably make it as dense as they want to on the Broadway side.

Edit: easing people's minds may be the wrong phrase. More palatable?

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Unfortunately, I doubt the neighbors would be eager to have denser development given the outcry for newer projects in Westport. If no one's complaining, then nothing's going to happen quickly. Great point. Those shops are in Valentine, right? Yep. Used to be called the Valentine Shopping Center, I ...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Sells used the term remodel, but I think any redevelopment on that site would require a teardown of the existing structure and a rebuild with residential. I don't think that anything short of that would ever make this site work.

Re: Uptown Shoppes

I skimmed through the LCRA meeting minutes and found some interesting tidbits: https://i.imgur.com/DkaXTm2.png That was in 2015. Looks like LCRA considered taking back the property because of low occupancy back then, and I don't think it has gotten better since. I think that it is required to stay a...

Should we remove the city/county wide rail project option from the poll? Of course that is the preferred option for everyone, but assuming that we have to extend it with a TDD...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion

Extending through Waldo no the CCROW (and then maybe down to Three Trails/Cerner) might be the most useful extension, but I think there is still too much neighborhood opposition, so it didn't get might vote. Independence Ave would be a good extension, but I voted for Linwood to Michigan (somewhat s...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

I really hate this place, it holds the entire area back. Probably more than the plasma place. Unfortunately, the owner just uses it as a parking lot for the Uptown Theater, so it isn't going away anytime soon. They could tear it down and build a parking garage, then build apartments and retail around...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

It's definitely not an original idea, I'm just venting my frustration. I think most people here would agree with transferring the airport. Unfortunately, it is probably a non-starter in this current political environment. I'm not sure if it would require a public vote or not, but I have very little ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I heard there is confusion from non KCMO residents trying to vote Its almost like people have an expectation of having a say on the issues that affect them. Did they forget what country they are in? What planet they are on? Seriously though, win or lose, we need to transfer this to another entity. ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Long long lines at the main Southwest gate this morning at 5:20 am. I would have missed my flight or just barely made it if I weren't TSA pre-check. Unfortunately, some of the Delta gates don't have pre-check lanes, which is another reason why we need centralized security. It's really annoying if y...

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ

The Amazon skunkworks seems mostly exploratory and probably isn't really designed to be a business. (yet) I think that if any of the big four tech giants make any serious moves in that space, they will make an acquisition of a pre-existing company (because hospitals hate switching, so it is hard to ...

Good article on the economic benefit of direct flights: https://www.citylab.com/equity/2017/10/how-direct-flights-shape-a-citys-fortunes/544478/ 90% of our existing flights are direct flights... Sooo.. 100% of all flights are direct in a sense. The key word is more. And cheaper and quicker. To more...

What good does sidewalk vacation even do? I'm glad they aren't going for a full street vacation, but with a sidewalk vacation, whats to prevent me from riding a bike or driving a car straight past the checkpoints? (I assume jaywalking enforcement would keep me from walking past on the street)
