Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
I would rather not have a storage building at 9th and Troost either, but it is a much better spot than the River Market. There is one apartment building there, but it is mostly light industrial or vacant in the area. They might be similar distances to the CBD, but the two areas are hardly comparable...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
There is a proposal for a self storage facility that recently showed up on the city's Development Tracker Map at the corner of Truman Rd and Troost. That seems like a much better location for a Downtown area storage facility. Two more storage facilities on the fringe of Downtown have shown up in th...

Re: Troost developments
344 or bust. I don't know if you mean that literally, but would you rather nothing be built than 244 units plus retail? Like I said, I would be happy to see 344 built, but I would be ok with 244. That would still be a watershed development. I think the retail on all four corners (if they are succes...

Re: Troost developments
It's not a historic landmark, but I think it is a beautiful building and I would like to see it saved. We have destroyed so much of the historic fabric of this city, especially on Troost, so we need to preserve what little we have left. Otherwise, all sense of place will be lost. That said, if MAC d...

Re: Troost developments
I really hope the market building doesn't get torn down before the plans are finalized and approved. I would hate to see it demoed and then this plan falls apart. I also think that if a compromise with the neighborhood is necessary, keeping the market building might be one of the best options. Perha...

An arcade bar called Rock-afire is coming to the former Empire Room spot at Martini Corner: http://www.kansascity.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/cityscape/article201372489.html Further east on 31st, the building on the SE corner of 31st and Campbell is being renovated (windows restored on the f...

Do we know for sure that is happening? The Star article did say "The front patio will connect to McCoy's Public House next door". I hope that means the lot will be gone, but it seems vague.earthling wrote: And great that the lot is finally going away...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
A new PIEA Redevelopment Area proposal has shown up in the KCMO Development Tracker map for the 4400 block of Belleview, NW of the Plaza. It looks like they are calling the redevelopment area "Midtown Crossing" (isn't that the name of the Home Depot/Costco development?), but the project m...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats
The 2017 MSA population estimates are out. KC had a pretty good year with a projected growth 22,530 for a rate of 1.1%. The growth rate has been trending upwards from 1% in 2016 and .8% in 2013-2015. It looks like it was a good year for domestic migration with a net of 8,531.

Re: 13th and Grand tower
Wait, are we all pretending copaken is actually going to build something here? :D I get that Copaken has had some plans that sit around forever and never happen, but they also get projects done. Arterra and Corrigan Station are both currently under construction. 1,300 parking spaces does seem like ...

The forced perspective of the first rendering makes the slope appear a little more drastic than it will really be. You can get a little better view from the second rendering.

Wow, that's great!
Any idea what might be happening with it? MAC still interested? It seems like they have moved on, for the time being.

The sale of the city-owned lot to Copaken Brooks that was announced last August is on the agenda for the LCRA meeting next Wednesday. It does say "LCRA will then transfer the Parking Lot Property to the Developer pursuant to terms of the Sale and Redevelopment and Funding Contract between LCRA ...

Re: Troost developments
So how do kcmo residents actively engage the council to encourage this type of density. The documents on the KCMO Development Tracker look like they were submitted to the City Plan Comission, so I'm guessing that is the next step. It takes 6 weeks after submitting the docs to have your hearing with...

Re: Troost developments
Right now I'd say that the design preferences of Central Hyde Parkers will be a bigger obstacle to getting something ambitious than the budget or the imagination of the architects. Yeah. I think there will be a contingent pushing for "old-timey" architecture. That usually doesn't turn out...

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham
The building on the left is the offices of SchoolSmart KC. I'm not sure if the tenant specifically wanted it without windows, or if Butch Rigby just decided there was less of a need for windows with that use vs the restaurant and retail spaces.

Re: Troost developments
I assume you are referring to Bakery Lofts for Blip? My post was unclear, but I was actually referring to BikeWalkKC's current office space as what I thought would make a nice neighborhood bar spot. I think there is potential for a nice little node in some of the underutilized commercial spaces rang...
