Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
This is where land tax would really shine. Street car goes in, value of adjoining land goes up, land tax on adjoining properties goes up to cover cost. i agree fully. a land value tax would provide an incentive for property owners to develop their land or turn it over to someone who will. furthermo...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
i agree with dave that a transit question is likely to be on the jackson county ballot within the next 18 months -- likely next year. however, the likelihood that it'll be commuter rail continues to wane. thus, i am more inclined to agree with grid. on november 4 i wrote: has mike sanders changed hi...

Re: KCATA Comprehensive Service Analysis
i have attended a couple of the forums. the presentation by the study consultant is highly informative, and kcata has plenty of staff on hand to talk with people one-to-one. remaining forums are: + Tuesday, Nov. 15, 4 to 6:30 p.m., Northeast Branch KC Library, 6000 Wilson + Wednesday, Nov. 16, 4 to ...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
has mike sanders changed his position? i think he has. in his state of the county address on thursday, sanders spent a lot of time talking about the importance of regional transit, and he promised to make it a priority. he did not, however, say anything about running commuter trains on existing trac...

Re: KCATA Comprehensive Service Analysis
we should consider these changes to be just recommendations from the consultant. there's no telling how many of them kcata will implement, or how many they'll be able to implement during 2012. expect public meetings in the affected areas before any significant changes are made.

Re: Missouri Amtrak Service
the current amtrak schedule allows for a pretty good connection from the eastbound southwest chief to moriverrunner (train 314) to st louis in the morning, and from the westbound moriverrunner (train 313) from st louis to the westbound southwest chief in the evening. making a permanent shift to a 6 ...

Re: Metcalf BRT
^ didn't mean it personally. ;) how can one justify a dedicated lane for that few people? jct has a real chicken/egg problem. they don't have enough riders to justify enough service to call it brt, yet they appear to hope that installing the frills (shelters, real-time signs, signal priority, brande...

Re: Metcalf BRT
daily ridership in that corridor is still (probably) below 300 per day. how do you justify a dedicated lane for buses carrying that few people. now that i think of it, how can you call a route like that "bus rapid transit?" is it suddenly going to start carrying 3,000 people every day once...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
10th and main is a borderline chaotic location, what with the traffic and peds (including me) who cross mid-block to and from the library and commerce bank building. i don't know that kcata (and johnson county transit) drivers are worse than anybody else, but calling it to their attention can't hurt...

the jo made some service changes effective september 26, including shift to a new park-and-ride location at oak park mall. transit action network tweeted about it: TransActionKC @JoCoTheJO is now operating from a new park-and-ride lot at Oak Park Mall. http://bit.ly/q38Re7 http://bit.ly/rkm2Xh http:...

let's keep in mind that this two-mile line is a "starter line," the first step toward re-establishing a rail transit system for kansas city. today a downtown circulator, tomorrow a key part of the region's public transit network.

Re: KC Commuter Rail
self-driven cars, flying cars, commuter rail.... rail transit can play a role in shaping future growth in the region so more people find it possible to live closer to where they work/play/whatever. unfortunately, commuter rail doesn't do that very well since it caters to people who live out on the f...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
^ fox's story is a little disappointing. just a description of the commuter rail options, with little explanation of the other options or the fact that a non-rail option might end up coming out on top. sanders reportedly wants to put something on the ballot in april. the study is not due to be compl...
