United, American & to an extent Southwest all have hubs or something like that. United and American don't go to MSP, DTW, ATL, SLC, etc. for the same reason that Delta doesn't go to their hubs. Why should they? AA does fly some non hub routes to/from Austin Austin is a focus city for AA though....

While N/S to those other cities would be great, there isn’t enough O/D to justify the flight (even with subsidies) and poor connection options ensures that no airline would ever touch a route like that. Not surprised. That route had to be bleeding money. All airlines are betting heavy on AUS but now the market is starting to correct.
