I've forgotten the details, but this area is already shutting down. The father or someone that owned it died and the current owners want out. They're not leasing any more space and haven't for awhile.
Don't quote me on those exact details but it's something like that.

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals
Didn't know that Orchard Park was in downtown Buffalo. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/new-buffalo-bills-stadium-estimated-to-cost-11-billion/ar-AAMP4CX "According to The Buffalo News, Pegula Sports and Entertainment pitched a $1.1 billion proposal for a new stadium in Orchard Park. It wo...

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals
If a stadium is going to a vote, it would be because tax $$ is being used. A key reason behind KCI success was communicating that there would be no tax increase. Iirc, streetcar is being built where the people have always voted for rail proposals. No clear benefit/experience improvement AND asking ...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
There's a good reason I'm not in charge of local transit, but I've always wanted to read more about the tradeoffs between prioritizing transit around urban areas with zoning reform to encourage density vs. trying to reach everyone in a sprawled mess because everyone deserves a way to work.

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals
Buffalo Bills lease is up in 2023 and they're debating what to do with a new stadium. I watched them talk about and they said they want to go to downtown Buffalo because it'll build up development. Kinda made me realize even further that some people on here get too into the weeds about the stadium ...

Re: Hotel Bravo- 17th and Wyandotte
Oh and hotels are EXPENSIVE as hell right now. They have been all summer. $240 a night is nothing for a hotel this year anyway. We have stayed in probably 2 dozen hotels around the country this summer and I am constantly looking at prices. It's not uncommon for mid range hotel rooms to hit 500-600 ...

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Iirc STL and Cleveland have both identified new terminals. Cincinnati not quite. I bring them up as our peers with old facilities. Indianapolis, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, all have been or under construction facilities. I know nothing 😂 I just wonder the appetite if we're up and running. I'm thinking...

Re: Future Stadium Plans: Chiefs and Royals
I think even the most optimistic people I talk to think the '30s. There is an acceptance that the royals and chiefs need to divorce at some point, but the question is how? Skc should have been downtown from the beginning but the mayor and ownership fucked that up. I think eventually they'll fix that...

Also if the royals get a new stadium, the chiefs will be asking for something. It's so complex

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
KC got a little "lucky" because there was such a consensus that our airport had to go. I think our peer cities will struggle to convince airlines to do much more than cosmetic.
I'm not familiar with what their fees are at though and how much room they have to raise money

Re: We are getting a new airport!!!
Obviously waiting for a pandemic and then hoping for an infrastructure bill isn't a good strategy. 🤣 Just frustrating that it looks like there will be money around and we don't have anything ready to request. The apm, but I assume they'll want some local match and we don't have it for a few years. I...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
They'll kill March madness by just making sure every team is included.
But you could start to see like an old big 12 preseason tournament, but that'll take killing the conferences.

Re: Sporting Kansas City
I think you could do sporting without parking. They aren't worried about the revenue. They'd easily fill up a bigger stadium and take transit. Plus they'd probably want to do at least a bar or two on sight. Club level stuff for corporate events, Depending on how they build it they could host footbal...

It would suck to miss out of this infrastructure bill. Is there anything they'd find persuasive from us? I assume we don't have any fees or matches available?

^Which is why downtown stadiums shouldn't be built as standalone islands. Build something such as hirise residential fused into it, the view of field is a unique amenity. Surround it with sports pubs and related interests at streetlevel. Essentially target a mixed use project that happens to have a...

Re: Sporting Kansas City
It’s so annoying when people’s first instinct to any downtown sports is “oNe hOmE gAmE a yEaR” before thinking beyond just ticket sales It's not ticket sales either. It's that stadiums are often dead areas and kill development, don't help it. So you have a huge building that just sits dead most of ...

Re: TIME TO FREAK OUT AGAIN ABOUT CONFERENCE REALIGNMENT! THE BIG 12 IS DEAD! MAYBE!
This whole thing is going to backfire for UT and maybe OU. This same exact thing happened to U of Minnesota Hockey, For Hockey only Minnesota was in a conference called WCHA, it had smaller schools from Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, etc. Games would sell out all the time, people loved watchin...

Re: Three Light
I'd put the chance of three Cordish properties being built at once below 10%, and the chance of two around 30%. My out is if they get another equity investor, probably hotel. Well DCOLE is correct. Midland and Three Light will be happening at the same time. Ah, I'm not counting Midland. That's fair...
