Re: Channel 5 hack job on xroads crime
The best part was that Channel 5 thought this was a better story to lead with than some tripple shooting gunbattle in KCK. This dudes Dave CDs getting jacked is CLEARLY much more newsworthy than some massive shootout. You could argue either way on that one. Was the gunbattle random? Probably no...

Re: Does anybody live in the Westside?
I just finished my move to the westside and I have to say - my walk into work this morning (to 6th and Broadway) was probably the single most satisfying thing about the move so far. What a great way to start the day. I'm not quite finished unpacking yet, but this place already feels more like home ...

Re: Modern Archeology
There are several small but abandoned staircases on Pennsylvania between 12th and 13th. Both sides of the road. The ones on the east side are taller than on the west side of the street, but they all lead up to empty lots. They're actually pretty interesting for itty bitty ones.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown
I can see how this will be very convenient, but I hope it won't hinder all of the life that has been brought to downtown at night both at 13th and Main and in all directions with people walking their groceries home. I don't think it's really going to hinder the "people walking their groceries ...

Just a note - the 9:30am tour is invite only. The 10:30am ribbon cutting is the only "public" event with the cabinet secretaries.

Re: the farmhouse
The Farmhouse is officially open for brunch on Saturdays from 9am-2pm as of last Saturday, August 8th.
Also, the pulled pork sliders are incredible, and the BLT is also delicious. We opted for french onion soup instead of the fries, and it was very good, but not the best I've had in town.

Posted in the Eljay's thread as well, but apparently Eljay's in the river market will be closed as of 7/25.

Surface Lot at 12th and Broadway
I'm interested in the eyesore of a surface lot between 12th and 13th, between Washington and Broadway. Does anyone know what was on that site before it was turned into a surface lot? How long ago it was turned into a lot? Anything?

Re: P&L District: 12th & Main Site Proposal
In what way? You're expecting late hours for a bakery on saturday night? Big Momma's is open 7-6 on Saturdays and they'll have a lot more foot traffic than Mema's. No, more that I expected 7am-2pm type hours - opening at 9am, you're not really catching the early crowd and closing at 5pm, you're not...

Re: P&L District: 12th & Main Site Proposal
Had lunch at MeMa's today - pretty tasty pastry pocket sandwiches (they have ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, chicken alfredo and meatball). They also have flatbreads which looked pretty good (jalapeno cheddar and mozzarella/sun-dried tomato/basil) and they were all pretty cheap. The povitica is...

Re: Liquor License Suspensions
Conspiracy or not, it defninitely seems like there is a step up in enforcement. I would be curious to see whether the liqour control folks have ever run any of these stings/sweeps inside the live block. Also, conspiracy or not, I've been carded at places I haven't ever been carded at before in th...

Re: Detroit - May 2009
Seems like that train station with the tower and the large base would have made an ideal structure for conversion to either an upscale convention hotel or a hotel/casino. Too bad the economics aren't there to support such a business. I don't know that it's the case that the economics aren't there...

Detroit - May 2009
As some of you know, I was born and raised in Detroit, attended school in Ann Arbor and have only been in Kansas City for just over 2 years. This past weekend, I was back in Detroit and spent a few hours in the city for the first time since I have been gone, and the stark differences were somewhat ...

KCATA needs letters of support by 1pm TODAY (Tuesday, May 5th)
An email from KCATA... URGENT UPDATE Kansas City's bus system needs your help TODAY! In an unexpected move last night, lawmakers passed a stimulus bill that provided $12 million for St. Louis' transit system and ZERO dollars for Kansas City. While we support the funding for St. Louis, Kansas City sh...

Re: "Hidden" Bar
I went to 1924 last night for happy hour, and then headed down to Manifesto to check it out. I -really- liked it. Everyone's drinks were incredible, and worth $11 in my opinion. It's ironic that the same people that would complain about an $11 cocktail from Manifesto will happily spend $9 on a dr...

Delicious! The sauerkraut is awesome. I got ketchup, cheese, and sauerkraut on my dog, and the dog was almost twice the length of the bun. It probably wasn't the best day to go - when I ordered, he said to go wait in my car and he'd bring it to me because it was raining and there really isn't any...

Re: NCAA Tournament Photos
I wonder why this is? Why were the Michigan people generally so unimpressed? Maybe the fact that their flagship city of Detroit is crumbling makes them sad that other cities are still undergoing some level of development? Thoughts? Always resorting to the crumbling Detroit jokes. Aren't those st...
