Re: KC invited to bid for GOP National Convention

Too bad. They'll have W drive across town and make a triumphant return to the convention (since he was almost banned from the last one). So much for the fake ranch bit and clearing brush. Living in a nice suburb now. I thought the P & L would be a strong point as a gathering spot. Just not enoug...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Royals win again....even though game is Final, not a word on the KC Star website on it yet. Ugh, so slow.

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-betwee

Survey crews were out in the parking lots south of Crown Center last week that have long been planned for condos/apts. Is Hallmark finally making a move?

Re: Austin

I've been to Austin several times over the past few months. I like it for what it is but most people love it because they're supposed to. I was telling a friend there about some things happening in KC and he said "have you spent much time in Austin?". As if I wasn't clued in to how wonderf...

Re: KC in TV and Movies

On last night's "Million Dollar Listing" the agent walks into this jaw-dropping, amazing penthouse that's listing for $11 million dollars and says "So the owner has moved to Kansas City". WTF? As much as I love KC, I can't imagine anyone leaving that place. It was just over the t...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

My friends in Sydney were completely taken by KC. They don't think the PAC is a ripoff of the Syd Opera House (it's not). They found it to be the complete American experience. They said they frequently look at KC info on the web and talk fondly about the Plaza, Gates, Union Station. It was also one ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

At last!...the tattered, faded Spanish flag has been replaced by a new one. It flies in the middle of 47th st. Maybe some proud Spaniard had enough and gave them one or Highwoods simply bucked up. Whatever the case, it was a detail that looked bad...glad to see it done.

Re: Union Station

The Highs are back on the Union Station fountain. What had been a very mundane fountain is now the car stopping show it was a couple years ago.

Re: Ballpark Village v4.7 (st. louis)

It looks like it's going to be out on it's own island...like putting a Cordish village out by the TSC. A Cordish bar village would likely fail if it were out between Arrowhead and Kauffman. That part of downtown STL is a little isolated--like the area around their Union Station. Power and Light woul...

Good showing. People in Austin are melting down that KC is attracting more people than their hipster magnet.

Re: Bannister Mall/Three Trails Development

The only saving grace for downtown in this whole equation is having hwy 71/49 as a direct link to getting to the Bannister site. The planned apt tower and other housing projects should be marketing themselves to Cerner ---"Direct access to the Cerner campus". Thanks Geeman for backing up w...

Re: Bannister Mall/Three Trails Development

Cerner now adding another campus that no one wants to live nearby. What young tech guy would want to live near Legends or Bannister site? I remember talking to college grad who moved to KC and lived up north. He hated living in north KC and later moved downtown. This is such a missed opportunity for...

Re: Crossroads Hotel

That location will have spectacular dead-on views of the PAC. I'm sure their real estate team was scratching their heads that it was available with those kind of views at a likely cheap price. Hence, let's not bother asking the city for $ to get this thing going.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I saw the Bird Sings has closed (behind O'Dowds) and it looks like a newer version of a Boulevard Beer gift shop is opening. Also, in the middle of the block that has Victoria's Secret is a new shop called Shinola. Looks really interesting...all very high end USA made watches, bikes and leather good...

Re: Ballpark Village v4.7 (st. louis)

Weird. So what happens when baseball season is over? Will it just sit there with no business for 6 months? Will Rams fans go sit in a Cardinals themed bar area (not close to the football stadium) and watch games? Seems like too much of a niche concept in a not too busy part of downtown. There are pl...

Re: bbq.

All these publications miss Danny Edwards on the blvd...better than okie joes. It gets zero pub because it's only open for lunch...I had a chance meeting with Steven Raichlen who does the BBQ University show on PBS. WHen I asked him what his favorite bbq in KC was he was emphatic: "DANNY EDWARD...

Re: UFO's over KC

It wasn't a "light in the sky". We were a couple hundred yards from it on a high balcony. We heard this tremendous rushing air sound prior to it appearing next to the top of the Sheraton. It moved slowly at first. It was the size of a couple cars. We certainly considered logical 4th of Jul...
