Re: The state of Texas : Mexico can have it back

Folks from our office spent 2-3 days in downtown Houston last year, it was fine.  It was during the week, they had a hard rock I think, the baseball stadium, we ate at 3 great restaurants, and enjoyed their flying saucer.  We walked everywhere, pedi-cabbed once.  I didn't think it was any worse than...

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth

I'm all for discouraging the McMansions and the gas tax is fair. I wish MO would increase our gas tax also, I have enjoyed our much improved highways. It looks like a very fair plan for both parties. I was actually surprised that they can wait to 2050 to increase the SS age to 68. Mine is already a...

Re: Election 2010

First off, by definition, they are not supposed to be sustained.  The stimulus is a substitute for the private sector that has withdrawn from spending due to the banking/credit crisis.  It is to bridge the gap until recovery or at least stabilization occurs.  That being said, lots of road crews didn...

It also had tax cuts as a compromise to the republicans, even though they are the antithesis of stimulus.  Fat lot of credit that got him.

Re: Election 2010

it's an ecomomics thing, if you're going to do a "stimulus" it needs to be the correct size to "move" a certain size economy.  Ours kept unemployment from reaching perhaps 16%, a larger one would have perhaps brought the rate down from where it is today.  I don't recall at the ti...

My favorite nugget of the season is that over the next 10 years, the unfunded medicare benefit will cost more than TARP and the stimulus combined.

Re: Election 2010

What issues did he run on in 2008, again?  Hope and Change? Yes we can?  I am sure the majority agreed with him AT THAT TIME.   But, now that it's 2 years later and the GOP have won big, it seems reasonable to believe that the MAJORITY now agree with their ideas, does it not? They don't have any id...

Meh. Most of those elected last night were Republicans. Not just Republicans, but Republicans that have been in politics for years .  There were some big Tea Party victories - Rand Paul in KY, Mike Lee in UT, Marco Rubio in FL (he's really an establishment GOPer that took the Tea Party mantle), Nik...

Our founding fathers shot the shit out of people with their guns, they had duels , they wore wigs with bows and ribbons in them, owned slaves, brewed beer and grew weed, and ate beef jerky in the middle of winter on the banks of the...
