Re: New Elementary School to be built in Rosedale

The style of how to teach is on the cusp of massive change. It's no longer about renovating inside the existing walls, it's about redesigning the entire inside. The pace of knowledge gain is dramatically outpacing our ability to memorize facts and figures. That everyone can learn the same basics of ...

Re: TOP 3 east-side neighborhoods with the most potential?

Talk this this only serves to remind me that somehow Columbus Park is NOT the most desirable neighrborhood in KC and, for the life of me, I can't understand why. I ask this myself every day. it's industrial adjacent, has an unsafe vibe with the soil remediation needed for a good chunk of it, people...

Re: New Convention Hotel

we can't assume the city wouldn't sweeten a deal with easy access to land rather than incentives. Barney Allis Plaza already has more than enough space for a major parking garage and a major hotel and it's in the perfect spot. and any project will have both parts. while downtown has plenty of public...

or it could take up a larger footprint and be quite a bit shorter than that

like the palmer house hotel in Chicago has 1639 rooms in 25 stories. it's ~3/4 of a city block

It was rumored about a year ago that Casey's General Store bought that property. ? Wouldn't it be odd to have a Casey's right next to the Quick Trip? not really. it's quite common to have multiple gas stations at major intersections. A company called Red Spoon owns the land right next to McDonalds....

From downtown, Prairie Village time-wise is as close as the Legends is in travel time. The Interstate is that much faster Distance-wise it's about as far as 635 and I-70 in KCK Leawood at 89th is in a weird location to get downtown. Right now google maps shows following Ward Parkway to downtown at 2...

▪ James said the city is closer to getting a downtown convention hotel that it’s ever been.

“We really do need it,” he said.

Re: TOP 3 east-side neighborhoods with the most potential?

I once knew someone that lived in Troostwood on the paseo. Anytime your home needs a huge bar on the back door the area needs work. But I would separate the homes right along the Paseo from the ones closer to the school. Even Rockhurst puts a big fence right along the Paseo a good idea for that area...

Right, I get you. I just can sympathize with what I perceive the intent to be, which is to say, a corporation trying to protect its IP from being used in ways it doesn't want it to be used. They may be wrong, misguided, and ultimately ineffective--worse, it would totally Streisand effect if they DI...

But that's just the sort of thing that they're unlikely to be able to prevent anyway. Sure, if the Streetcar Authority sends you a cease and desist, you might decide it's not worth getting sued over. But if there's any unauthorized usage that courts are quick to call fair use, it's using a governme...

1. Paseo West. basically The Paseo and the interstates surround it. it's downtown adjacent. it has some good existing businesses in it and it would bridge downtown with 18th and Vine, Pendleton Heights and such. it has great highway access. it has transit service and would be super easy to improve t...
