Re: Troost developments

Kansas City needs to move forward.

I live next to Troost and have taken the Troost bus enough that everyone who waits at those bus stops and rides those buses wants the neighborhoods around those bus stops to be better.

Re: Troost developments

This is a good answer, and there is a lot to digest within it. The first is about the market. The U.S. is not a free market economy. We decided that after the Great Depression. And Kansas City development is not a free market economy either. Delayed property tax payments is one of them.

Re: Troost developments

Developing vacant land and vacant buildings into housing and commercial space which can offer services is a neighborhood benefit.

Re: Troost developments

Thanks for the link to the Denver Post editorial. First, they make the mistake of repeating the Kansas City Star data-less assertion that Kansas City is experiencing an affordable housing "crisis." But, more importantly, they quote the editorial writer as saying, “I used that term because ...

Re: Troost developments

The discussion that development along the Troost corridor is a take away from the pie is ridiculous. Development of vacant buildings and land contribute to the pie that we can all eat from.

Re: Plaza Heights Development (Westport Today Foundation)

Well researched. If I understand correctly all the houses proposed to be demolished are rental properties owned by a St. Luke's Hospital development division and were all donated to the development division. The design of the new housing seems to be nice. I don't understand the goal - demolish well ...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

I'm fine with the design, and don't think it's distracting, and may even be complementary. But have to haha at the "squinting test" - whatever that means. I'm more eager to see contemporary design for the corners at Armour and Troost. I think that's the right the approach.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Certainly better than neighbors - 625-29 E Armour Blvd and The Hamilton, but this will be across from the iconic Newbern Apartments. Is this design complementary, neutral, or distracting?

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

Since downtown around the Kauffman Performing Arts Center is dead, it doesn't make sense to continue to "should have would have " thinking. Maybe the under utilized Kauffman gardens along the Brush Creek.

Re: "Tower East"

There are food trucks in the El Torreon parking lot on the weekends. I highly doubt the Church or the Longfellow or Hyde Park neighborhood associations would approve a nightclub.

Re: "Tower East"

My favorite rememberance of Martini Corner is the Royals chase for the World Series in 2015. Every bar at that corner was alive. We had to get to the bar at least two hours before the game to claim a table. I loved when Tower Tavern and Brick House had their windows open and we could shout between t...

Re: "Tower East"

For sure, there are no martinis at the Martini Corner, but the name and promotion made a place. The promoters of Tower East are trying to do the same at 31st and Cherry/Gillham.

Re: Is Kansas City becoming an inverted city.

A 2000 survey indicated that 60+% of downtown residents worked outside of the downtown district, so this is not a new phenomenon. What may be new, is the large number of people who live and work remotely, or independently, out of their homes. My job is located in Overland Park, but I rarely need to...
