Re: New Convention Hotel
Could the tower above the L-shaped base (which could match the 22 stories reported) be a possible expansion? Not proposed or planned, just possible. maybe. depends on how they engineer it. like they would need to have enough structural support to handle more height, a way to extend utilities and el...

Re: New Convention Hotel
Made the mistake of reading TKC comments about this news. That place must contain some of the most terrible people in the world... I respect the right for someone to be against a project. We need people to point out bad ideas and question the government, make the city actually support good ideas on...

Re: New Convention Hotel
I wish I had more time to really play with this stuff and make it look good, but this is the best I can do for now. The before picture goes back to before KPAC was built. The after includes 2, 3, and 4 light. It's missing Arterra, the smaller hotel going up beside the new Hyatt, a little bit of one...

Want to make this more interesting,
This is equal to 1/3 the cost of every other project downtown for half a decade, all 70-some of them.
The recent number is $1 billion worth. Now to be $1.3 billion.

Notice how this is across the street from the large arts garage. Bet that helped this spot get picked out. They're putting less spots in than rooms. This isn't uncommon. The Chartwell project is around double rooms to parking. It is true that a lot of downtown hotels offer shuttle service from the ...

And 16th and Main just became a VERY busy streetcar stop in 2018+ That's 1050 hotel rooms at this stop. Just 60% occupancy with 1.5 people per room is ...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper
Just have people sign a waiver or something. A waiver protects an event from its attendees, largely for things it shouldn't be liable for like sticking ones hand on a hot cooker at a cooking event. It doesn't change the need for the event to follow food safety laws. The waiver would need to come fr...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?
I wouldn't call the 1980s special in any way for building construction downtown. Here's the major notable buildings and structures that show on the downtown skyline by decade. After the lull of the 1940s-50s downtown saw 19 notable buildings 1963-1994. And if you want to talk about ups and downs, th...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper
KC's version of Octoberfest should be a largely private event dominated by a huge number of RVs? That really doesn't make much sense.
