Well, It's gone.  Just driving up to the intersection felt like going into a wasteland.  How many years will this be naked?  What suburban hulk will eventually find it's way here, shunning it's relationship to the walkable area to the east?

The area in 1925 and today.  I don't see too many surface parking lots in 1925.

KU Med Center has bought and plans to tear down the 1 story retail building at 39th & State Line.  Tearing down that old (and marginal) building does not seem like a big deal.  But it is, an I'll tell you why. It says "welcome".  Welcome to Kansas.  Welcome to the campus. Welcome to KU...
