Re: New Broadway Bridge
the northloop has all the ramps. removing it is nice for urban development but it will have two effects that would need to come with more general redesigns 1. drive more northland residents to work in joco, since 635 would be easier to get to than downtown. the fix for this is to redo the east loop...

Re: Washington Sq Park between Crown Center/Union Station
Yes, once they develop that extra land, they can't ever get it back. It's a good size, they just need to figure out how to redo it.DaveKCMO wrote:it's waiting on an infusion of capital -- public or private.
IMO they should just create a conservancy and make it a really well programmed park.

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
I just disagree. We need a high class hotel for KC residents, not just out-of-towners coming for a convention. Proms, business meetings/parties, couples celebrating anniversaries, etc. If it's merely a box to stuff convention attendees, it's design matches it's boring function. It could be more. He...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
Question: why the obsession over height? I think it offers no real additional value other than touching on the whole "mine is bigger than yours" debate. I'd say the whole era of skyscrapers and super-scrapers is "so 20th Century" as far as the developed world goes. Developing cou...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
Well the pic of the Sheraton you just posted is not the greatest, actually it is probably the worst pic you could find to try to make your point. And the new Hyatt still looks like Shawnee Mission Hospital. and if that's your argument, then one shouldn't think these renderings represent what the re...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
I think the original Hyatt, now Sheraton, looks much better and it was built in the early 80's. My biggest gripe is why shape it in an L and not just go vertical? Cheaper I guess, but I wouldn't think it would be that much cheaper. The original Hyatt I believe is 45 floors in Crown Center. Hmm... t...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
The reason to not go vertical is actually quite simple, mechanicals. While an elevator can go higher easier, you need larger utility spaces the higher you go. So you end up with less room space on lower floors relative to the higher ones. Since it costs more to go higher this means a higher average...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hyatt Regency Convention Hotel
While we shouldn't lower our standards, look at what we've got Downtown right now. The Marriott, the Crowne Plaza, the Sheraton and the Westin. All are pretty darn ugly if you think about it. But over time, they've become part of KC and don't seem quite as ugly as they may have when built; or at lea...

I honestly could care less about what more towers means for our skyline or our appearance. some guy in 1929 about the P&L tower: "you can't build that concrete monstrosity! you'll detract from the our beautiful brick skyline!" Haha, true... Basically what I meant by that, it is doesn'...

I honestly could care less about what more towers means for our skyline or our appearance. I'm all excited about this rumor/news because it means more units, and therefore, more people. It's why I'm so excited (still) about the 800 room hotel, plus all these other hotels, and even a potential hotel ...

Just fyi, that surface lot to the north is owned by different people. Can't build on land you don't own.NorthOak wrote:This project is goofy.
Tear down buildings and for new construction and still leave the ugly surface lot to the north.

Despite our main local elected officials being Democrat (Cleaver, I'm looking at you!). Is there any chance they'd be willing to work with Republicans like Roy Blunt and Gov. Eric Greitens to get federal funds for us based on the fact that the streetcar line would: 1. Create a lot of new jobs for Am...

If they are at this stage with those design plans....I'd think this is happening unless their funding is suspect. It sadly wouldn't be the first time a project doesn't happen because of funding. You can get approval from the city, and everything is ready to go, but if you can't get your investors o...

I'm definitely a minority in this city (I assume) because I love the idea of a single terminal. Or at least a single security terminal that can then branch off into separate terminals that are beyond the security checkpoints. My honest opinion of airports I've been to... Re: New Convention Hotel
I'm hoping they just wanted a new rendering for the city council and so they just pulled some generic looking building with the right dimensions. It sounds like it's going to change so I'm being optimistic. I'd guess that maybe they are also figuring in cost. Given the nature of this project, I ser...
