Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
BAP has been redone so many times since the 70's that my guess is if it is saved one more time the saving will last around 7 to 8 years and then it will be redone again. So leave it alone and work on other things that need work downtown.

Cost of new NFL stadiums
The stadium would be way too big for the AR, as well as too far away. The horses are stabled in the other buildings and then rode into the arena for the horse show. Riding the horses 5 blocks would doom the Royal. And to put the stadium just east of the sewage treatment plant would just do wonders f...

The American Royal needs Kemper, they cannot use the new downtown area. The other buildings in the complex are used for stalls for horses and livestock among other things in conjunction with the show. Without Kemper there is no American Royal. And the garage by the Livestock Exchange Building and Bu...

Devin, are you wiping out Kemper and the new garage in your plans? Don't see them in the picture. American Royal does need to use Kemper for their event.

There is more to the story than that. There were two entities trying to get the NHL team to KC. Of course the KS based partnership wanted to build in KS and the MO partnership wanted to build in MO. The ownership went to KS on condition that the arena be built in MO. Remember, back in the early 70's...

Star: Rise of the small house
Went to see the "New Urbanism" houses in NKC and at Longview. Was impressed but the prices were way out of line for what one would get. Was it quality that made the price high? Was it development costs that made the price high? Don't know the answers but for those prices for those sizes wi...

you idiot, my point isn't skyline, my point is that KCK is crap, and it always will be, and it doesn't deserve NFL as much as KCMO does... The Chiefs are too good for KCK and the state of Kansas. So even if KCK or JoCo can cough up the funds, plans, etc. and get the job done and KCMo or JaCo can't ...

So, we have quite a few stadiums in that list around the $300 million mark, for a NEW, ground up, stadium? And some were wanting to pass Bistate II, to spend roughly the same amount of money to simply improve an existing stadium? Call me confused. I may not be correct about the costs of the new con...

Who should be the next Mayor of KCMO?
Will anyone run? I went through my first KCMO mayoral race after moving up here and was stunned at the lack of interest from anyone who I would consider a serious candidate. In Wichita, pretty much every mayoral race was hotly contested and seemed to be a position people strove to attain. Here, it ...

One way to pay off the bonds issue for this project would be to have a 1% sales tax imposed on sales within the stadiums, and in place of a user fee. A user fee would only be on ticket sales and not concession sales. That way there is a bigger piece of the pie to impose a tax on. The tax could also ...

The Star: Pull Union Station out of mediocrity
Don't believe the Bistate Commission appointed the leadership of Union Station. The rehab was a joint effort by the Commission and the Union Station board. The best that I can think of is that the City granted redevelopment rights to the Union Station board much like they would grant redevelopment r...

Instead of a sales tax increase why not a property tax increase? Already people are complaining about the sales tax rate.

I put in the riverfront site as just an option. I agree that would not be a good place to put it - unless Clay and Platte counties want to come on board. But a good stadium plan needs more than just a stadium. It needs to be presented as a redevelopment/economic development project, not just a stadi...

Now that Bistate II has bit the dust I guess I can put my 2 bits worth of comment on the issue of a downtown stadium. If the downtown stadium dreamers really want their dream to come true I believe the following steps need to be taken, and not necessarily in this order. Choose a specific site. Does ...

Government revenue sources went exclusively for rehabbing the building and is complete. At this time there is no further government oversite of the operation. You can consider government involvement in Union Station a success in that the building has been saved and fixed up. Now, it is time for the ...

there are amny entities involved with Union Station. Overall corporate and individual donations provide much support with the endowment. Funds also come from attendance and rentals. Bistate I sales tax provided funds for the restoration of the building and leftover funds were set aside for the endow...

Should KC Metro Area Come Together Under a Metro Government?
Bistate is different than the plan proposed. Yes, a tax is collected but decisions are not being made as to where companies are being located, roads and bridges built, and even state involvement in business recuitment and retention. What would you do if the Bistate commission wanted the business in ...

To reply to M - I do a lot of dreaming. I dream of world peace, racial and sexual equality and other Miss America things. I do dream of economic matters but they are based in some sort of reality. In your plan almost all of the stadium is over the tracks. Not sure of what the acreage would be suspen...
