Re: MIZZOU: Anderson hiring NOT a "Home Run"
Gardner just signed with an agent. MU Tigers - meet twelfth place. Anderson is going to have a tough first year without Gardner. MU had a pretty nice class coming in under Snyder (Morrison...#1 Juco player in country and Lawrence who shot up from nowhere into a huge prospect at guard) but now Mor...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground
I don't agree, the public at large was at least mildly interested and listening with an open ear. They weren't even given a chance to decide, really. You live in KC and have your ear to the ground much more so than I do so I will take your word for it. The read I got from afar through reading the ...

http://blogkc.com/archives/2006/05/gateway-closes-kc-office-makes-off-with-tax-breaks/ How many more times does this have to happen before we STOP IT!? In Gateway's defense, they are not pulling out because of greener pastures elsewhere, it's because the company is in serious financial trouble....K...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood
I think this project is not only great for KC but absolutely imperitive for eastern downtown. Those who would suggest that the city should have held out for a denser more urban project with taller buildings must be basing a lot of their opposition on nothing other than optimistic speculation. As M...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground
We can talk all we want about individual incidents and personal contributions that damned the prospect of a downtown stadium but the overwhelming cause of this disappointment was Massive Lack of Public Support . Believe it, if it was deemed the populace was soundly behind a downtown ballpark, the e...

Re: "How Sprawl Got a Bad Name" - and why only a SNOB would deride sprawl.
in my opinion, the link between sprawl and housing affordability and availability is tenuous, sprawl actually adds to the cost of housing. in the united states, we have enough land to keep housing relatively affordable until the population stabilizes. unfortunately, instead of taking an inch, we ha...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!
I also have my doubts about our ability to support an NBA team. But I'd love to see us try. I voted the NBA. One reason I think the NBA would be OK is the enormous popularity of college basketball in the area. An NBA would do especially well here if the local schools keep creating talent that a K...

Re: "How Sprawl Got a Bad Name" - and why only a SNOB would deride sprawl.
Agreed. People make mistakes. Sprawl did not suddenly occur, the first suburbs would hardly be considered sprawl by today's standards (e.g., Prarie Village, Roeland Park etc...). In fact, we look at these developements as relatively dense today. I think there are several reasons for the more irre...

Re: "How Sprawl Got a Bad Name" - and why only a SNOB would deride sprawl.
My objective would be to destroy the suburbs in their current form, people can either leave the suburbs or move to the city. Why the hell should people be able to slander the urban core when they don't know jack shit about it? Personally I say slander can work for places as well as it does people. ...

Re: How much more can the Plaza take?
It would have had little effect on downtown. In the 80's Sailors may have kept some of the companies that LEFT downtown for Johnson Cty in the city. These companies wanted OUT of downtown, they were going to leave for whatever reason. Once again you prove that you know nothing about everyth...

Re: When Downtown KC was a powerhouse - A must see for all
Thanks Michael. The Pickwick Hotel and adjacent former bus terminal (at least that is what I think that building was) are among my favorite buildings in KC. McGee is certainly one of the roads less travelled downtown, as these buildings are not even on most people's radar screen. I certainly hope...

Re: Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood - A Study in Neighborhood Reclaimation
I have found roundabouts to be both functional and attractive. I agree. I prefer roundabouts because they generally keep traffic moving. The exception is where flow in one direction dominates. A roundabout can be difficult to negotiate for the uninitiated and requires lane discipline if on anyth...

Obviously we don't agree, Highlander. I hope I never fear the nebulous bogeyman of "bad influences". "Bad influences" don't necessarily mean some kid who has an ounce of crack in his pocket who attempts to lure your child into an alley for his/her first experience. Its more ins...

I do have a child myself so this isn't some thoughtful exercise. I totally understand that you want to send your kids to the best schools. But there should be more criteria than who scores the highest on academic tests. I want my children to understand that there are people of different social c...

Of which, Pittsburgh fans have celebrated five times and competed in six times since the last time KC even sniffed the Championship of the most popular professional sport in the US. You may think you're doing the "more responsible" thing, but I don't agree at all. What really annoys is using prejudicial language like "screwing their chances" when referring to sending them to an urban school. To my mind that only proves that you're basing your decisions on h...

Re: Toronto man interested in buying Penguins & moving them to KC
Are there even 500 jobs in Pittsburg? I'm sure there are in Pittsburg h , but I have no way of definitively knowing if that's what you're talking about. If it is, though, then yes, because it would be wonderful for downtown KC, and to remove them from the Steel City wouldn't be nearly the blow to t...

Catholic schools have killed the Kansas City school district. They erode tax money to public schools, Actually, Catholic schools allow some higher income types to live within the district that otherwise would not because of the lack of availability of good schools. Without Catholic Schools, Brook...

Re: NBA in KC - Where's the pressure?
KC lacks the population, income stats and corporate presence to have a 3rd franchise. I'm not sure what you mean by "economic demographics" in this argument. In answer to RLEXI's question, I would suggest that KC getting either a NHL or NBA franchise is not in our hands but up to the righ...
