Re: Statewide transportation sales tax coming in 2014
i was unaware of that. that is the stupidest provision to include and I think just swung my vote to no. this is kind of my thinking as well...why would we vote to block those funding avenues? Because the trucking companies, gas retailers, and other various special interests that own the state legis...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper
I just don't get the thinking behind wanting to tear down a full-fledged arena that exceeds what you need, to build a building that meets what you need but provides nothing more. It eliminates the possibility of growth. Why would anyone pay more, for less? it's quite simple, operating costs. Yeah b...

Re: Streetcar Opposition
Back at the spring Valentine Neighborhood meeting we had the streetcar folks in to talk about what was going on. We had several representatives of the brookside tea crowd show up to heckle them with "facts" about the tax and some good old fashioned FUD. They were so out of place with the n...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-betwee
Crown Center has punched holes in the Halls concrete overpass over Grand. They are (or have been) installing the windows. The new Halls will be filled with windows sunlight and a great view. Think about this mentality shift. When CC was built, this space was enclosed & windowless - almost (or p...

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
Is still a poor design. Looks like many would drive to go to a meeting in a building across campus. Have not seen too many new urbanism projects that have turned out as well as they looked on paper but any new urbanism format would be better than this. With more and more direction towards work from...

Re: Union Station
I think the truth lies solidly in the middle of the black and white positions argued above. Does KC have the kind of gridlock necessary to move transit to the top of political priorities across the metro? No. But traffic has gotten way more noticeable and inconvenient the last several years. To the ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
The fallacy of these responses is that you assume the traveler is free to schedule any day/time it might work and that the connecting flights are always available. When you actually try to book around real travel requirements the options often look quite a bit bleaker. Especially if you try and rul...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
I also sense that a lot of KCMO urban working class/poor still have a very strong suburban aspiration. The opportunity to sell and move out of the city to OP or Lees Summit, SKC even, seems to still be a pretty powerful draw to a lot of folks. Not all I am sure, but many.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Its pure speculation whether it improves service. What is not speculation is that failing to address the design failures that have been continuously identified as making our airport unattractive to airlines for over forty years, will predictably continue to make the airport unattractive to airlines ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Our flight options have nearly halved over the last few years. Probably more than halved if you factor for the reduction in capacity from much smaller planes serving the airport. Yet people are seriously arguing that there are plenty of options and suggesting its just whining to complain about our s...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway
Does Kansas City actually have any truly gentrified or gentrifying neighborhoods where the poor are actually being replaced? I really cannot think of any that is happening on anything more than a very minor scale. I would argue that it is happening through large swaths of midtown, the Westside, and...

Also, If it is security lines you are so worried about, you should probably notice that most of the mos...
