Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)

The 300 Wyandotte garage is $3 to park all day. It is 3 blocks from the City Market. It is an office building, so it is mostly empty on Saturdays, but it advertises excess capacity every day. There are also signs advertising capacity on the Second and Delaware garage. Since it is no longer free all...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Tacking on to add, Google street view is behaving interestingly right now, depending on where you set the point of view on the street you can actually get a good view of what 20th and Main looked like before the road diet and greenery additions, and now. Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

The extreme homeless population in the River Market may be why it is such an undesirable place to walk around. I noticed too, that people don't walk around unless they have a dog with them and there seems to be as many dogs as people in the RM. More green space is certainly needed since the riverfr...

Re: The KC City Flag

That said, I do see where folks have tried tweaking the fountain heart and I like it better too, though I suspect it's off the table for now. This one caught my eye, as an example. https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/uscgbq/redesigned_flag_of_kansas_city_missouri/ The heart just needs mor...

Re: The KC City Flag

It'd be better if the fountain heart actually looked like a heart. Make it an actual heart shape and it'd be perfect. The fountain heart symbol is all over the city website. I've seen it on manhole covers, and I'm sure it's on city letterhead and elsewhere. So I suspect one of the benefits of this ...

Re: The KC City Flag

Sounds like they really are going with a new flag. It doesn't "wow" me at this point and I'm not quite sure about the shade of red and blue they are going for--maybe the image on this article just renders strangely on my screen compared to how it will look in real life--but the removal of ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Why hasn't someone developed this building at W. 3rd Street and Wyandotte? It seems to me it would be perfect as a British-type pub restaurant. Does anyone know for what it's being used -- if anything? https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1093675,-94.585793,3a,54y,305.23h,92.25t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLTwJ...

Re: Arabia Steamboat Museum Looking for New Home

I thought the owner and inspiration for the river boat exhumation died in 2019? Is this a son that is being difficult? So, what is the problem with the River Market location from the city's perspective? Do they actually have vendors that would take over the space if the museum left? I rather think ...

Can we get that surface lot next to this new gym filled up? Seems like with a gym next door it would be prime for an apartment The KCMO GIS parcel viewer shows that surface parking as being part of the same lot as the gym building. Given the owner's quote, “We’ll be right on the streetcar line and ...

3 years seems like plenty of time to adjust the law prohibiting demolition, if possible. Perhaps adding a clause allowing cases to be reviewed as that period ends and the demolition lockout extended. And maybe something allowing the city to order and make emergency stabilization repairs in egregious...

Re: Bike Lanes

In addition to improving connectivity of the existing bike lane network, I'd like to see the city eventually pick a couple neighborhoods that spur off that network and put bike lanes on every other road in a grid for half a square mile or so, and then expand from there. Create some good biking oasis...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?

A local company I used to work for had this as a cultural mantra: " Those who oppose, must propose. " It is not enough merely to stand in the way of an idea, that's a half thought. You have to propose a decent workable alternative. Pay attention to politics for any length of time and you'l...

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing

On my walks this weekend I was surprised to see the roof at the Seiden's Furs building is still open to the sky a full year and counting after the collapse. And seemingly no permits filed for either repair or demo. On deeper digging I did find that the owners of the adjacent building (Majestic) file...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

I wonder if Market South bought it only to get control of the surface parking lot for development because it doesn't appear to be part of the sale? That's an interesting observation. The listing does have this marketing pamphlet associated with it, which denotes that lot as "potential mixed us...

This forum is for discussion of development, not the promotion of false and dangerous stereotypes. The Lux development wasn't a TIF request. Asparagus stalks? Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

The KC Tenants Twitter retweeted someone who said, "We will NOT continue paying for our own displacement!" Who is being displaced from vacant land? I'm not understanding that. I actively *want* vacant unused land "displaced" when it's in the middle of the city! Personally, I have...
