i agree...it really is ugly...they could have made the library look like a mission with a courtyard reading room and a huge skylight...oh well...

Gilham Row Townhouses...
This project looks great...just another step in filling in the holes that plague our urban core. With projects like this and the Madison and others around town being built on vacant land all the holes will be filled in 15 or 20 years. Hopefully there will be enough people who want to move into these...

Downtown buildings in Red, White, & Blue
Not to mention that the pylons on Bartel are being lit up by red floodlights instead of white ones.

OFFICIAL - Hotel President construction
NO!!!! save the president! It is a great example of 1920's Kansas City School architecture and it should be saved. I do think that work really needs to start up again though. Maybe the building should be more lofts instead of a hotel though.

I read in "'Round Town" (Town Pavilion's newsletter) that a new restaurant will be opening soon in that restaurant space. It's the Lexington Grill. The newsletter said that it will attract national jazz performers and be a real attraction. I hope it's more successful than Mezzaluna was.

Paint on bridge
Is the sliver-ish part of the broadway bridge the actual color it is going to end up being or is that just a primer? I hope it's not paint because it looks like shit. (it's already rusting)

Westport on the right track
I'm glad Westport is going back to the way it started in the 70's. Upscale, charming, unique. The Bar scene belongs Downtown and will help revitalize downtown. Westport was getting to grundgy. I like the skate shops and stuff, but having nicer stuff in there again will make my house worth more...les...

Anti Jo Co Movement
:D I agree...the suburbs suck...but southern JOCO is the worst. It takes forever to drive anywhere in that God forsaken sprawling wasteland. Any time I'm out there I see no one on the sidewalks...only people in cars. I bet in 20 years all those cracker jack box houses will have rotten them selves ou...

Best new restaurant for 2002
Jackstacks opened in 2000...Zin opened in 1998 or 1999 I think...at the latest 2000. Both are really good. City Tavern has the best location for resturant of 2002. It's food it ok...but it looks really cool inside.

Northlands view on downtown?
I live in the Roanoke neighborhood that is just north of 39th street and west o SW Trafficway. I consider this to be an inner-city neighborhood and it is great for my family and all the other families in it. It is an odd neighborhood being tucked away on a serene boulevard, lined with hundred-year-o...

Speaking of Urban Outfittes
Urban Outfitters would have been a good store for that spot. I think KC needs one cause they are really cool. I'm pretty sure that Anthropology is owned by the same company, so I don't know why they wouldn't snatch up the empty space across the street. It may be a little too grungy for the plaza tho...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
Its awesome that the city is actually getting serious about this. Are there any renderings yet? Are those going to be released soon, or do they not exist yet? I kind of hope its make of brick...Good News for Downtown...Bonds a good idea
