Downtown baseball
That's a great letter....I would hate to see the city spend $350 million for "wider concourses, concessions, and women's bathrooms." This is shaping up to be a money grab with the teams asking for the moon and Kathryn Shields basically asking them how much they want. The Chiefs have a year...

Grocery
I was excited to hear about the grocery plan. But it put a damper on the whole thing when I heard it would be a Marsh's. They already run the worst store in Westport. Can they find enough rude employees to staff this one? As for parking, they could have some spaces but this city is obsessed with park...

Excitement over Downtown St Louis?
I used to live in STL and frequent it still for business. If this is such a great "international city" why is everyone leaving? It has ranked #1 in population loss for over 30 years (always beating out Detroit). It was #2 for crime in 2003, #1 in 2002 (again, fighting it out with Detroit)....

Highrise
The last word from crown center was that they may build residential next to SF tower but it wouldn't be a highrise. They plan on doing a four or five story loft building instead. The original plan was for a twin tower but they've scrapped that idea. Too bad.

Park Housing
This plan looks like something that belonga at 119th and College Blvd. If anything, they should build residential high rises on one small corner of the park---perhaps behind the Post office, across from Annie's lofts. This city badly needs high density population, not sprawling apartments. A high ri...

St Louis has skewed whatever numbers they've put out for their downtown population. Stats for 2000 released by the Fannie Mae Foundation/Brookings Institution show St Louis as losing the most downtown population of any of the 25 cities they surveyed (down 1700 people). The city of St Louis led all l...

Downtown Baseball Stadium
The fast growing downtown population would give a boost to season ticket sales. Also, since the Royals and Hallmark share the crown as its symbol I would think it would be a natural to have Hallmark own the naming rights for the new ballpark. "Hallmark Field" with a large crown facing thei...

Collison is right. How do you have this huge crowd and nothing for them after the lights come on? I've been going for years and it is a letdown. The stores should be open, more activities in the street. Even the music is lousy..."Yankee Doodle Dandy" before the lights come on? They could u...

New Coffee Place Opening at Westport and Central
I wish someone would open a coffee shop at Crown Center. I had heard Starbucks had talked to them but it had gone nowhere. With thousands working down here you'd think someone would do that. Union Station has an odd coffee shop that also sells razors and combs...along with bad coffee. You'd think Un...

New City Crime Rankings
According to this morning's St Louis Post Dispatch, newly released crime rankings by Morgan Quinto Press list Kansas City at no. 28 of America's most dangerous cities (out of 350). Not good, but our friends in St Louis fell from No. 1 To No. 2 after Detroit took their spot. As a former St Louis resi...

Problems with development style of South Loop
I'm in favor of the South Loop having some kind of nightlife/entertainment district. I'd also like to see, as a support to the arts community, a block or so of just art galleries developed. A "gallery row" could even be partly subsidized by the public via any new bi-state tax. Let's say th...

Migration of young, single, college educated in the US
I lived in St Louis from 95-99. Everyone I met not from St Louis was looking for a way to move OUT. My friends and I thought it ironic the entertainment section of the paper was called "GET OUT"....most are trying! I knew one company based downtown that moved 40-50 people from their Denver...

This is by far the worst run store I've seen. Unfortunately, their business seems to be so good they don't have to care. Even the greeter at the door doesn't say hello! Is she a mannequin? Oh well....I'll frequent Costco more...great products, friendly employees.

New Coffee Place Opening at Westport and Central
I wish someone would open a coffee shop in or near Crown Center...If Westport can support four surely Crown Center can come up with one. The Union Station coffee shop closes early----with bad coffee.

My suggestion for a tourist draw downtown actually comes from friends who recently visited from Australia. They were amazed and disappointed there were no OZ-themed anything here---no restaurant, bar or museum. They finally found OZ trinkets at their hotel gift shop for friends back home. Someone wi...

Downtown Baseball stadium talk firing up
A new Baseball stadium would be a really bold move. We need more bold moves in this city. It still amazes me how a city of barely 200,000 in 1914 pulled off building Union Station, then the Liberty Memorial. Imagine the debates that must have raged. Union Station is our finest, most spectacular buil...

Another great site for this would be just north of Crown Center. Washington Square Park would be a great walk-up entrance to the new Hallmark Field. Since the Royals and Hallmark share the crown as a symbol it would be a perfect tie-in. The stadium would open up to great downtown views being set bac...

OFFICIAL - Federal Reserve HQ construction
I've heard they're demolishing 23 buildings for this site. I've also heard I.M. Pei is the architect and that it is likely to be 14 stories. The word from a friend in Atlanta is the Fed spared no expense on that building. Evidently they have huge budgets for these projects. It may end up being a spe...

I had friends recently visit from Australia. They tried cashing Traveler's Checks in US dollars issued by VISA. Neither Commerce or UMB downtown would cash them. By the reaction of the banks, you would have thought they had brought in Australian Dollars! They kept bringing them to backrooms, discuss...

Does anyone know why the Bloch fountain in front of Union Station isn't lit up anymore? It seems like the past few weeks it's been dark.
