Re: Houston: City Gone Wrong or Model of Urbanity for the Future?

I love the fountains over the light rail track - does the water stop when the train approaches?

Texas has an unhealthy love affair with their freeways, interchanges and access roads (which are basically smaller freeways next to larger freeways in some aspects).  Anyway, enjoyed your pics.

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser

That's my take.  Funk can't hire teachers and in reality can do very little to directly improve the schools.  I actually view the fix the sidewalks campaign as branding something that needs to be done anyway, and should have been done a long time ago with a "school" title to get some pres...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser

so i presume you've personally inspected said infrastructure and found it to be adequate for your own children to use? Nope.  I have no doubt that the infrastructure needs attention.  My personal opinion is that if you're going to spend $100 million with the expectation that schools will benefit, t...

Re: Should Rockfest be banned from Penn Valley Park?

I don't have a problem with it in Penn Valley Park. I do have a problem with it being ont he Liberty Memorial grounds. These types of events degenerates the sanctity of the memorial. You wouldn't have this type of event at the Lincoln or Washington Memorials, Gettysburg or at the Vietnam Memorial. ...

Would be nice if they could incorporate 'Vancouver-style' development:  2-3 story townhomes fronting the street surrounding a highrise or office space in the center of the block.

Re: Brookings Institute: The State of Metropolitan Areas

Surprises me why some of the cities are categorized as they are, too.  While Wichita, Tulsa and Louisville may have a less diverse workforce or population, their growth rates (in percentage increase) are significantly higher than those of other 'Industrial Core' cities like Cleveland, Detroit or Tol...

Re: Wizards to face Man U

I head a rumor that part of the deal for state support of the new stadium was that they go by "Kansas Wizards" or "Kansas Whatevers" if they change the brand -the same policy that requires the race track to go by "Kansas Speedway" instead of "Kansas City Speedway&...

I really wish he'd give up on closing PVP to vehicular traffic.  I also have to wonder if having different 'modes' (BRT, LRT, trolley) will confuse more residents than it helps by serving multiple parts of the city.

Re: OFFICIAL - 909 Walnut construction

Odd timing as some downtown condo buildings are going rental.  At least it's easier to transition/sell units in a 90%+ occupied building than an empty one.  I wonder what % of those already living in it will bite? I seriously considered living in this building when it first opened - they said that ...

Still waiting for that cite. I've looked into this pretty extensively and haven't found dramatic decreases in T-boning accidents. Why? Research says: because ~99% of the time, someone who runs a red light and T-bones you wasn't paying attention . They didn't run the red light, at full speed, on pur...

Only a portion of it will be underground...hopefully not the garden center.  The article says Lowe's on the bottom with a Wal-Mart built on top and 80-90 residential units.  Sounds like a great use of space, but how bummed would you be if you were on a date, things were going well, you agreed to go ...

Wow!  My partner and I just bought a house in November and the back yard is covered in concrete except for a 4 foot band of dirt and lava rock around the edge.  I've been trying to think of a way to build some sort of garage or car port that wouldn't fill up the entire back yard and you picture may ...

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)

For what it's worth, I'm not saying it's a failure.  I think it's an overall net positive for the city.  I just think that a lot of people think that CC is a huge success (just because it's in OP), when it's not what they think it is. I don't think that there is any demand at all for national conve...
