kansas city mention in environmental science textbook

i was skimming one of my textbooks last night, and came across a chapter that compared kansas city and portlands virtually opposite approaches in approaching development and interation with their respective rivers. i wish i had brought the book with me to the lab today, but the point is that it resu...

Re: Is The Plaza A Fake Environment?

i think the plaza is just at the end on a continuum (tending towards a retail focus) of urban neighborhoods. its still on the continuum though, in my opinion. it just needs a few important adjustments (grocer, etc) to move towards a better balance.

some friends of mine moved to ultra-hip Brooklyn not long ago.  they are so broke that they basically sit in their hovel and eat baked beans.  but hey -- they're so close to CULTURE like museums with $17 admission, $75-1000 theatre tickets, etc.  they may as well live on Quindaro for all the "...

the time is nigh for a shred of westport. i'd go take pictures myself right now, if i didnt have "responsibilities."

lifestyle centers are wRoNg, but westport (and NOW sections of 39th street) breaks my heart.

Re: Nobody believes P&L District is for real

Maybe, just maybe, those who do not agree with you "are trying to build a future in this city" that looks different than what you envision. Not saying that future is better or worse than your future, just different. Maybe it is a city protecting its tax base instead of spending money on a...

heh, ok, well it seems that the people who don't agree with some of the wonderful star columnists are the same ones who are trying to build a future in this city. i don't particularly want to spend 50 years in a city that says "we can't."  we'll see. seems like this city is at the verge. o...

Re: Private Rapid Transit

Perhaps.  A lot depends on where your values are -- education and health care may be higher priorities than PRT. In the 90s, Raytheon was working on a system they called PRT2000.  I visited their test track west of Boston in the late 90s and wasn't all that impressed.  Their vehicles held two pe...
