Re: Whole Foods Buys Wild Oats

I'm crossing my fingers for the store on Johnson Drive.  I like Whole Foods much better than Wild Oats.  I'm thinking--with its proximity to Plaza and Midtown and the redevelopment of Mission Mall--that it might stay open and convert.

Re: Looking for Short Term Lease Near Courthouse

He might have better luck finding a short term lease if he looks up and down the MAX route.  Maybe he can sublet from someone going out of town for the summer from KCAI or UMKC.

Re: What is it?!

It's funny, because I just drove past that place for the first time the other day.  I was trying to figure out how to get on that overpass that crosses 7th Street Trfwy just north of I-35.  I actually emailed my husband a picture of it with the subject line "Spooky Scooby-Doo House."

EPA had people onsite within a half-hour of the explosion doing ground-based monitoring.

baby steps I remember when a large ethnic festival that I am only very loosely affiliated with was going to move to the WyCo fairgrounds, which is right across 435 from the now-Speedway.  At the time, several of the members were very worried about having the event in WyCo because of "all the cr...

I would also recommend contacting the folks at Present Magazine (http://www.presentmagazine.com/contact.php).  They compile and distribute a "what's going on at First Friday" email every month.

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

Boulevard Row is about 12 higher-end units at Rainbow and 44th.  More promising might be Missions Cliffs at 39th and Lloyd (about a half-mile west of State Line) that will have more than 100 detached and townhomes that will price in the high 100s to mid 200s (http://www.cityvisionministries.org/miss...

Re: Hotspots - Wireless Internet access locations

Actually, all of the KC Missouri public libraries have wireless, including the swanky downtown and Plaza locations (both of which also have coffee). At the JoCo libraries, wireless at Antioch, Blue Valley, Central Resource, Corinth, and Leawood Pioneer Libraries.  I like using the public libraries b...

Re: Relo? Where to go?

I would throw in Rosedale as well -- 66103 -- just for the hell of it.  Housing stock is similar to West Plaza.  Taxes are higher (according to this thread http://forum.kcrag.com/index.php?topic=11187.0 ) but prices significantly discounted.  Close to some excellent parochial schools ( http://school...

Re: Marsh's Sunfresh

i'm still shocked (shocked!) that the PC on Roe doesn't have a salsa and guac bar where one can buy awesome fresh salsa. They have some pretty kick-ass guac in the produce section in the freezer case on the north wall.  I've never bought their fresh salsa (we have a favorite jar brand or make it at...

Re: best video/dvd rental place in kc, esp. for indie/foreign films.

I went to SRO one time, looking for a movie that I had been trying to rent for a while.  I'd been in a few times looking for it and it was always checked out.  The clerk saw that I was annoyed and asked me what I was looking for.  When I told him, he said "wait here" and went down to the b...

Re: best video/dvd rental place in kc, esp. for indie/foreign films.

I used to live across the street from SRO, and they have -- no kidding -- beer night at least once a month.  Beer night consists of a cooler with -- no kidding -- free beer.  I think that gives the place a huge leg up. Now we rent from the Apple Market at Mission and 47th.  It's a little bit of a &q...

Re: Can someone comment on this neighborhood for me?

I'd suggest checking out Rosedale (in KCK) or NE JoCo as well.  Both close to DT and midtown.  Both with lots of fairly nice rental stock.  Zip codes of interest would be 66205 or 66103. Also the city of North Kansas City, which is right across the river from DT (you can see DT from there).  Zip cod...

Re: Why should young people live in Kansas City?

This discussion reminds me of my belief that there is a conservation of cool.  That is, in places like Portland, where everyone is cool, everyone is moderately cool.  In places where there are a lot of people who are uncool, the people that are cool are very cool.  The trick is just finding those pe...

If you're talking about Northgate Village, there's a brand new Save-a-Lot in the retail development adjacent to the residential development (right next to the Ruby Tuesday).
