Re: Smart City Project

If Sprint/TMobile merger happens, one of the upsides could be some pushed out management who want to stay in KC creating more startups/consulting firms. It happened with Sprint/Nextel merger. A handful of new startups came out of that.

Re: Smart City Project

Yeah, I wondered too with new mayor/council. But good to hear that city will still be involved on the solutions side, not the riskier experimental side. There's still momentum in private space despite what KCMO sponsors. Bob Bennet has started a smart cities consulting firm as well. Based out of KC...

Re: Smart City Project

KC's international clout in the Smart City space has been raised. Four KC reps (of 14) have been selected as leaders for a global think tank and advisory council on Smart Cities and IoT (Internet of Things), more than other cities. "CompTIA is the world’s largest trade association for the globa...

Re: Pursuing FREE City-Wide Bus

Interesting that those cities are looking into free fare for environmental reasons. KC (like most US cities) has an issue of being relatively more car dependent than older US cities and in Europe/Asia. Free fare itself won't directly solve the issue but businesses and developers cater to the assumpt...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Well I know many who are confident that don't come across as self-important but I'll give you benefit of doubt moving forward. I throw out a lot of crazy ideas here just to get discussion on the bigger picture. And I'll get justifiably bashed if I'm relentlessly nitpicky, which happens a lot - and I...

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown

I saw an article a few years ago where Cosentino's said well more than half of their downtown store profits come from the prepared foods side of store. They are probably not as susceptible to low margins as most traditional markets, buy I wonder how much perishables impact them C's should run cookin...

SLC! https://www.wired.com/story/free-bus-rides-salt-lake-city-not-far-fetched/ And, unlike other projects, there are no consultants we can lean on to build a plan for us. Worth the effort to attempt collaborating with SLC? Planning, lessons learned, challenges, etc? Separately.. here's a list of f...

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown

Yeah and the way Target approaches small stores is that they'll rotate categories of items then stick with what sells in the neighborhood, keeping one section as a rotating section at all times. Nordstrom's is doing something similar with the Plaza store, which will be smaller than their others. In ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Restaurant idea for City/River Market area that I'm stealing from a small chain on E Coast, called Dig Inn. It's a build your own bowl place a lot like poké bowls but instead more towards fresh farmers market goodies. Could see this in RM area with a KayCee spin to it. Yeah I guess Protein House doe...

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown

We make an effort to support locals but national retailers have their place for downtown. Chains are not a good fit for Xroads or RM. Crown Center has shied away more recently. P&L seems to be going more towards entertainment/eats and less interested in merchandise but would probably love to sco...

Nice. Thinking more about workplace with my experience. There's an interesting balance of small gesture/etiquette on E Coast and protecting the personal circle. And the services industry is more competent out there with higher standards in my experience too.

Re: Cosentino's Grocery downtown

Even though my respect-o-meter pegged to 11 for Cosentino's, still wouldn't mind seeing a TJ's somewhere downtown or midtown. TJ's doesn't do prepared foods, no meat/seafood counter and is more specialty than C's. BTW, C's downtown seafood counter has slid over the years but I think you can still sp...
