Re: Minimum Wage (Split from New Convention Hotel)

^^^ Yes, but those are categorized as the $3 worth of extra benefits that were mentioned. It seems to me that people join unions in order to get something above what they could get on their own. Why aren't union leaders pushing for wages higher than the minimum and instead asking for exceptions? St...

Re: Make Grand Grand

What's interesting about that article is via twitter we know the engineer on the enlarged loop project was looking into which type of thermoplastic to use to mark the lanes.

It would be strange to use one product for every street except Grand.

Re: Minimum Wage (Split from New Convention Hotel)

So, if unions are negotiating to the same wage as the minimum wage, what's the point of joining a union? these will vary but they're all things a union could get. Unions formed over working conditions moreso than money. Firings for cause with union representation, not just at will. Designated sever...

Re: How would you design improved bus service in your neighborhood?

I live one block off the only 7 day local northland line, 142. I second Dave's point on too many stops. Just north of me there's two stops that are two blocks apart. Realistically the line does not need both of these stops. The city even installed sidewalks on one side of the street and bike lanes g...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Bored with what they're doing? You're supposed to be bored. Exciting is a sign there's trouble in retail. That there's nothing beyond the norm happening means everything is going well. They have a setup that just works. The day it gets exciting with the retail setup is the day everyone should get wo...

Re: H&R Block's Second Tower?

Now that H&R Block is selling H&R Bank, I would think they would invest the $250 Million + in newly opened up cash reserves. Do you see them investing in KC real estate(second tower or such)? Did they ever replace the 350 people fired in 2012? To me if they increased staffing tells me if th...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

that's a family vacation schedule set of flights the departure isn't perfect but you could go into work at 7am, leave at noon (or 1 if you're close to home), take the flight in the afternoon and check into your hoel right after dinner in Portland then the return is decent for a family with kids. up ...

Re: How would you design improved bus service in your neighborhood?

The first thing I would do is to change this: http://www.kcata.org/maps_schedules/regional_map/ It is the most annoying transit map I can imagine. Here is a picture of the metro area segmented by region, which is fine because it is very large, but you are there to get an idea of which lines run whi...

How would you design improved bus service in your neighborhood?

This is a hypothetical where you are part of a conceptual planning meeting to improve bus service to your part of town. The idea is to take your neighborhood (part of town) and improve bus service to increase ridership, better serve neighborhood amenities and connect your neighborhood to the regiona...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

Cost of living isn't just rent for many systems groceries, restaurants, basic purchases like clothing, rent, utilities, transportation, average salaries. So higher water costs would make the city less affordable. $50 average higher for water vs rent is a wash, for example Cost of living data used in...

Re: New Convention Hotel

^I don't believe so. In the original renderings, the building appeared to be massive -- taller than the Power & Light building -- but I read a little while back that the new convention center hotel would be 360 feet tall, making it significantly shorter than the P&L building. http://www.ksh...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I have reported that lot roughly once a month for the past year with every ticket they send someone out and even when nothing happens, it leaves a paper trail that can be referenced later. So when the city does statistics on what gets citizen reports for the council or public works or the police or ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

$240 million bonding capacity is left as of when the current budget planning began in 2014, no vote required to use. That's explicitly mentioned in the city budget. And if someone can find proof either way from a late 90s official record, I thought I saw several years back that those were always mea...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Ok, we're going to build new to open in 2019 and renovate it in 2039. We need to raise ticket rates to pay for both right now. We should never be tearing something down to build something new when we haven't paid off what we are tearing down(.) Why haven't we paid off the bonds in over 40 years? Th...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Raising too much money and doing nothing in it would be worse. We shouldn't be stupid lean but the airport should not have been raising hundreds of millions per decade that sat unused. Like raising enough to at least pay off the bonds that you mentioned, $230M, after 40 years? If that number is the...

the money raised from the last 30-40 years have been spent. Do you think the airport just built up a huge pool of money and did nothing with it? No, that would be too fiscally responsible.
