Re: Two Light - 14th & Grand

So, I wonder if the issue with these buildings isn't so much with the glass and similar style but the location. Any other buildings, even if they are all different styles at these locations and over 20 stories are going to have a dramatic change on the skyline and hide all the wonderful stair step b...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

My biggest concern with the renderings and the square footage descriptions is that it really feels like this airport is going to feel cramped around the gates. The width of the concourse seems way too small. Doesn't allow for restaurants between gates which means they'll all be grouped together, not...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

A few questions.... The extension will be free to ride right? If so, is the plan to keep it free to ride for the foreseeable future? Are the planners taking into account the unpredicted ridership levels of the starter route when determining the size of stations and number of streetcars to order? I ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Why does no one explain to Loar that there were NEVER 90 gates. The gates were numbered 1-90 but they skipped many numbers. Also, those gates were tiny and were meant for smaller aircraft. They really didn't try and explain the reason for why it is only perceived that we're going to less gates and t...

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

Don't we want more pedestrians to be walking around comfortably downtown rather than catering to cars and drivers who have to slightly change their route? While I agree there are more efficient methods for closing Grand, I guess I just don't see this as a big or stupid problem.

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

I vaguely remember hearing something about the hydraulic ones not playing nice with cold weather / snow / road salt or something. Could have just been a silly rumor or I could be conflating it with something else though. They were initially automatic, but apparently the Australian company didn't de...

Re: Closing Grand all the time is stupid.

I just want to go on record as saying this is a "good problem to have". I do think Grand could have been better configured to support pedestrian traffic. I think one of the primary issues is the bollards. I know the city intended to have automated ones that were simple and quick to raise/l...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

I think you're overestimating the number of autonomous vehicles that will be required. Think how many of our personal vehicles sit all day long while we work or stay home or sleep. When shared vehicles become more common place you'll need less supply for the demand and there will be less 'parked' ve...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

Why are we building a garage for the next 100 years??? With Uber, Lyft, autonomous vehicles, this just doesn't seem like a good idea to drop $63 mill. I'm for Option 1 or Option 3. Option 3 allows us to at least repurpose an above ground parking structure. With Option 1 we will likely know in 15 yea...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2018/03/28/kcata-suit-bad-fences-make-bad-neighbors-on.html She also claims that the KCATA built the fence and that it has been around since 1989. So she basically conceded that the property was theirs? Wow, she is a terrible attorney. Not to mention that...

Re: Three Light

Incentives, when used properly can help stabilize a community. Had we not invested with Cordish in P&L district, we would have likely seen a continued decline of downtown which means less money coming in and still the same infrastructure to support. I do feel like 100% property tax abatements ne...

Re: Three Light

I agree. Was fascinating to hear the Cordish rep discuss all the concessions they've made and the expenses they've incurred to help the city. One item that was interesting was that the City has to pay Cordish a $4 million developer fee, I guess for 3 Light? Didn't quite understand what that money wa...

Re: Three Light

It passed out of committee with no recommendation. Basically, I understood that Cordish will evaluate whether or not they want to negotiate and potentially meet some of the requests of the city in the next two weeks. The resolution to pass 3 light as it stands today stays on the agenda for 3/25 meet...

Re: Three Light

But by all means, throw a tiny wretch in things to increase your political clout. You take things SO seriously! It’s just business. I don’t understand how you can expect the city to take it so willingly, losing millions of dollars without any kind of push back. Cordish isn’t going to walk away from...

Re: Three Light

I agree. The Skyline looks great and will only look better with the addition of the Light buildings and Convention Hotel. My biggest beef with the Light buildings is the name/signage they use (Just seems like not much thought was put into the naming). I know the names were likely part of the brandin...

Re: Fixing KC's lack of downtown parking?

With Uber, Lyft, soon to be self driving cars, is this really a problem we should be focused on at the moment? We need to think forward not backwards. I suspect there will be an abundance of parking spots within the next 10 years.
