Parking Garage on 14th and Baltimore
I went over this week to watch the demolition of the parking garage at 14th and Baltimore. They didn't try and save any of the decorative stonework. None at all. I saw them knock the building down--including wrecking that stonework with the gear motifs, and the goddess frieze. It made me sick that t...

Ron Jury Isn't Blocking Development
The problem is that Ron Jury doesn't appear to be the one blocking development. He is actually trying to develop the President Hotel--and has been for some time. He has a potential tenant lined up, and it appears the financing as well. It's this cabal of big developers that control large parcels of ...

Jury should get extension
I agree. Ron Jury should be supported. He should get the extension. He has put forth a lot of effort and personal risk to advance this project. He has the financing, and a future tenant (Hilton). The city should give him the time necessary to put a plan together. It wasn't his fault that he lost his...

New Subway Restaurant Opening on SE Corner of 11th and Oak.
There appears to be a Subway Restaurant opening on the SE corner of 11th and Oak streets in the base of that new city parking garage. The signage has gone up already, although the interior space build-out doesn't appear to have advanced very far yet.

Urban Sprawl
Is it really in Kansas City's interest to create additional reasons for urban sprawl? The City itself needs to focus more on in-fill projects and creating higher density of residents within its existing borders. Public transportation relies on higher densities to be successful. Creating commuter rai...

Fang the Developer Wannabe
The quick answer to that question is that I lack the financial capital. I guess it would be fair to say that I have spent too much time playing SimCity. I missed my calling I think; I should have been a city planner. I also spend too much time reading books on city planning, preservation, city histo...

Another idea
The other good locations for a all-night diner/coffeeshop would be that specialty-car place on the north side of the Majestic Steakhouse, or the street-level spaces in the old Coates House Hotel. That hair place or the current rental offices of New Quality Hill would be good locations. NQH could mov...

No outside seating
I wasn't suggesting any outdoor seating at the Seiden's location. The coffee place next to the Chinese Place on W. 8th isn't highly visible. One would think though that the Folger's Coffee Plant on Broadway and 8th would open an in-house coffeeshop. :-D After all, the whole neighborhood smells like ...

high rises
I concur with keeping the feel of the present neighborhood. However, there is room for a few bigger highrise apartment buildings along Grand Avenue, McGee, Oak, and Locust streets south of 15th Street on existing vacant parcels. One could also put several on the west side of Broadway and Washington ...

Still haven't seen anything reported
Yes, I've been watching the local news, web sites, and KC Star. I never saw any mention of it.
It must have put out a lot of smoke because I live on 10th and Washington and it smelled like something was on fire across the street. This was about 10:30 Sat. night.

Location
I am just suggesting that location is ideal because it is close to the Majestic Steakhouse, Tanners, and the Quaff. People who frequent those establishments might enjoy being able to go there for coffee afterwards; or a late-night dinner, or early breakfast after The Peanut, Tanners and the Quaff cl...

Icky
That building opened in 1960. When I am in the library, I often wish I was in a protective suit with its own air supply. Have you ever looked at the central-air vents in the ceilings? The ceiling tiles around them are disgusting. I can only imagine how much dust and mold is in those air ducts. The c...

Yes, it's a hideous building. I would shed no tears if it were torn down.

SW Corner of 11th and Grand
The Bryant Building is that old art deco tower on the SW corner of 11th and Grand. It's directly (west) across the street from the Professional Building, and (south) of UMB's new building. There is a computer store/internet access place on the ground floor on that corner.

Sept. 8, 2003 The Business Journal of Kansas City OPINION Opportunity beckons We've often said Kansas City needs to make a big and bold move to kick-start Downtown into becoming a vibrant, place-to-be destination. The evidence suggests such a golden opportunity may be nearing. Three heavy hitters i...

Transportation Costs
The whole issue of mass transit in the urban core may eventually be decided by the economy and fuel prices. For the last decade, Americans have been buying vehicles that are less fuel-efficient instead of more-efficient. One only has to acknowledge how many trucks and SUVs are on the road nowadays. ...

NE Corner of 10th and Broadway
Is there anyone else that thinks someone should buy out Seiden's Fur store on the NE corner of 10th and Broadway (next to Majestic Steakhouse), and turn that into a coffee bar or diner (like Sidney's)? It's a perfect location for it. Surely there isn't much need for a fur storage business these days?
