Re: Union Station

I wonder how much spinoff attendance there is for the World War I Museum from people traveling from outside Kansas City? Anecdotal, but driving Uber pax in Austin I bring up KC to everyone, and all the people I’ve encountered who have been to KC since the exhibit opened mentioned going through the ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge

This is how great cities build and maintain bridges (Pont Alexandre III bridge, completed 1899). This bridge is 57 years older than the Broadway Bridge. You picked an international historic landmark that just happens to be a bridge. It would be like not maintaining the Liberty Memorial. Then there'...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposa t

Oh piss off. The discussion about a specific site proposal doesn’t need to devolve into fucking wage debates for restaurant employees. The original discussion was they though they couldn’t hire enough workers for two spaces. So if hiring and wages aren’t relevant then why were they relevant to a di...

Re: Union Station

The Auschwitz Exhibit has been hugely successful.. if you were not aware, KC is the second of two cities in the US to host the exhibit before it returns to Europe. This is the legacy of the bistate tax, a location hosting international caliber events. The Star did a piece 5 days before opening. The ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

^The tennis courts can stay as a rooftop and/or floor within a broader public use building on this site (doesn't have to be housing), with perhaps moving Plaza library here as well. You get much more public function and acts as a gateway to Plaza from streetcar stop, plus potentially a few TOD reta...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

How could something as a big as a few acres fit as a downtown project? Acres is not that big. One block of the east village site is 2 to 2.5 acres each. There's 16.5 acres in Columbus Park flanking 3rd St The parking lot north of Washington Square Park is 4 acres The Children's Mercy parking lot al...

Re: Bike Lanes

Sounds workable. Might be tricky between Indy Ave and I-70 where there are number of monuments, fountain, pergolas, retaining walls. Putting it in Troost Park is good idea as most of park unused, too bad Troost Lake along Paseo is mostly steep downgrade hardly enough room for narrow ped sidewalk. W...

Aesthetics is never a reason to tear down a building

If we had let aesthetics determine what buildings we keep we would have a lot less Art Deco buildings in this country. Look at how many old buildings were reskinned like Oak Tower

Member will still be virtue signaling about masks I was in HyVee the other day after the mandate dropped. Was one of the ~40% not in a mask. I'll wear one if the store has a sign up still. I hate them. Hate, hate, hate. I scheduled my kids to be vaccinated for the first date that was available beca...

Re: Home prices across KC neighborhoods

The trend of buying to tear out seems more likely to happen when a house is under priced or if the home is older. My mother's home is from the 1940s and we could see a lot of those same things. I think it's this idea is with older or cheaper anything new is better than doing nothing. The major probl...

Given the city is installing far brighter streetlights citywide at the height of second floor windows it’s not likely to be something easy to get enforcement on

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

In regards to doing away with the Plaza tennis center, I think there might be some support from unexpected quarters. I've heard residents of the north side of the Sulgrave and Regencey stating that they wish the courts were not there, at least in the evening because the intense lighting glare spoil...

Re: Bike Lanes

I'm thinking more in the areas we have a wide median and limited left turns on the Paseo. Why would we tear out grass to put in bike lanes? Indep Ave to 18th should be trails down the middle. a nice ten foot wide shared trail for walking and biking with existing sidewalks for connections and adding...

Re: Bike Lanes

Would/could Paseo be center running? The amount of curb cuts (green paint) on Gillham just look like a recipe for bike/car interactions. I bet the majority of dangerous crossings is people turning left into their driveway. People don't generally look behind themselves when they do this. With a bike...

I was going to say somehow build a transit oriented development on the tennis courts, but I thought that was sacred ground. I've been talking about it for years expecting ONE PERSON to clutch pearls and it hasn't happened... yet. This leads me to believe that (a) I'm in a bubble or (b) Plaza tennis...

As a nearby resident I would like to see more neighborhood type amenities. Also a fan of closing a street for a block for outdoor dining and what not. would you consider an urban target or other daily needs type retailer to be a desirable neighborhood amenity? Right now, if you live on the plaza wh...

Re: Bike Lanes

I agree that something nicer should be put on Paseo. Mixed use path where possible would be great. Do more to make it looks nice where its on street. Nothing wrong with demanding more. Especially on Paseo, which is supposed to be one of our grandest boulevards. I see a lot of people who are clearly...
