Re: beer.
Liked the 21st anniversary, thought it tasted like the nutcracker, not a bad thing.

Tell me more about the hood, I was over there a couple of days ago, maybe. My buddy did an art installation at the the police station at 75th and prospect.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
Our office has been on SW Blvd for 10 years now and I THINK it's been there the whole time, but wouldn't swear on it.

Re: The Future of the West Bottoms...
Sorry for the bump if this should go elsewhere. There is a huge ramp being built from just east of Woodswether Cafe towards the bluff. Anyone know what's up? Can't quite figure out where it's going to connect. I thought maybe they wanted to eliminate truck traffic from the 12th street viaduct.

Re: R Bar - new bar in the west bottoms
Took an out of town guest last night. Highly recommend the brie-stuffed bratwurst. It's a starter that should be an entree if not for the health consequences that would inflict. Surprisingly busy for a cold Tuesday night. Edit-apparently it was cheddar-stuffed, man that was some buttery-smooth ch...

Re: beer.
At the store while procuring my bottle of 21st, I spied 4 packs of the regular smokestack series, 5th glass, tank 7, dark truth, etc. Have these been out long? How much? Place was too busy for inquiries. I love the concept if the price is reasonable.

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
That article and Paul Krugman's column this weekend did give me pause. Tying the retirement age to average longevity is fine...unless you're a framing carpenter or drywall hanger. But something tells me that these issues exist already.

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
Lately it seems that the popular and easy things go forward and the unpopular and difficult get set aside. It's why we are where we are.

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
The tax rate decrease is already part of x. it's called "broadening the tax base", along with raising the marginal rates for capital gains and dividends and yes raise the gas tax. I guess my frustration is that when an idea or plan with any complexity gets proposed, say deficit reduction ...

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
No offense, I think you're missing the concept of 'zero sum game'. The commission proposal en masse reduces the deficit by x. If you drop the mortgage deduction elimination, it only reduces the deficit by "x-mortgage deduction".

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
I guess my experience with the deduction was less notable. It had nothing to do whether I purchased a home or how much I spent on my home. It was something I dealt with every April 15th, along with all the other deductions I took. If it doesn't affect home purchase it is mostly irrelevant. The n...

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
The onus is not on me to offer up a new cut or revenue stream to offset a poorly thought through proposal. If you want to cut the deficit, make serious proposal to cuts and not one that will have whopping negative impact on the middle class not to mention a host of unintended consequences that wil...

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
The offset is not to do away with the mortage deduction. I personally do not need it but it is a bad, if not insane, change to one of the few good things about the current tax code. Doing away with it will have dire and unintended consequences. I particularly find it disdainful that the eliminat...

Re: The Deficit Commission and its effect on urban growth
I look forward to this being a zero sum game. Using this as a benchmark, if you want to change an item, offer an offset. It's the only way the process is going to work. I go back to the afl-cio/grover norquist argument. They both hate it and argue for a "pro-growth" agenda, ie growth wi...
