Didn't see this mentioned elsewhere.... 1201 Walnut remains closed for Day 2 after the burst sprinkler pipes in the lobby flooded the basement, shorting the electrical service to the building:

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I wrote to Airport officials and suggested that they should follow the blueprint of Terminal D at DFW. They said all options are still being considered, and said they would forward my message to the city council, and upper airport officials. Terminal D is a great space, and I think that would be a ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Mark Van Loh said that if a new Terminal doesn't get built, then they may have to look at putting a security structure in the garages because there is no more room to expand security at the airport now. Also, forget any type of linear structure being built off the current terminals because there is...

Shouldn't it be Mission Chateaux? Or does the former Meadowbrook Junior High warrant only the singular chateau?

Re: Jimmy John's to open Drive-Thru restaurant at 9th & Broa
anyone seen the new jimmy john's in brookside? the one without a drive-thru? It's in the Berbiglia building, but just in a newly sectioned front part facing 63d Street. The back part of the old building including the parking lot facing Baltimore is still a Berbiglia store, considerably freshened. T...

Well, I will share what I am able to. The plan is for the bricks to come from the school that was torn down at highway 71 and 39th street. Was a beautiful building, glad they are were able to at least save the bricks. I was really surprised when the guy at Green Leaf mentioned that...pretty progres...

They greatly outspend the Dems in per capita outlay during convention season. I don't find this surprising looking at the financial profile of the delegate mix. One ...

Why has this project energized such a backlash against reasonable planning objections? -- almost like the owners cast some kind of spell over the Star and the city council.
Yael's full-throated defense of the drive-through is almost obscene.

Re: Demolition at 43rd and Main?
I guess 43d is not major on the East side. The traffic light at 43d and Prospect has been busted heading westbound for at least a decade -- burned out bulb. Doesn't even warrant a stoplight at The Paseo.

BUT WHERE WILL THEY PARK? The cost to park among the 1,700 surface and structure parking spaces nearest the building ranges from $55 to $131 a month. But Klumb said the GSA may negotiate for a large block of spaces at a discounted rate. In addition, he said, the Downtown Council of Kansas City has ...

The more I think about it, I wonder if this whole New Big Box terminal push is primarily a backdoor way for the city to increase (perhaps signficantly) its parking monetization.herrfrank wrote:Garage parking was $1.00 which everyone chuckled about.

Re: We do not need a new airport!!!
Just went up to KCI to pick up two friends flying in from NYC. Super easy to park (lowest level has plentiful parking even if middle level is full). One was on an earlier flight and got a stool at the Starbucks. Plenty of seats and many food/ beverage/ facilities options outside of security. Second ...

The Jimmy John's being built in the Brookside Berbiglia has no drive-through.KCMax wrote:...yes, there are plenty of Jimmy John's (and other fast sandwich places) that succeed without drive-thrus. Mr. Goodcents, for example, is pretty much fast food, and they never have drive-thrus.

Anyone recall how the elevator banks are set up? Are 10-24 serviced directly by at least 2 lifts and 1 freight lift? There are two banks of elevators -- with I believe four elevators per bank. The lowrise elevator bank also includes a separate, keyed elevator that goes down 30 feet into the sub-bas...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Basically, KCI is 'convenient' for a small part of the local population. It's convenient for the small part of the local population that travels frequently. Who cares if MCI isn't new -- most new airports are built with miles of walking required in a big-box format -- Kansas City's airport is incre...

Re: We do not need a new airport!!!
Halleluja! I also travel a lot for work (100,000 annual miles for 20 years), and I am a frequent business traveller to Kansas City MCI. The current airport is incredibly convenient. TSA lines are quick and the distance from gate to taxi is perhaps the best in the US. The one complaint would be the i...

Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown
A couple of nitpicks: I cannot believe GSA is going to jam 1000 employees into 150,000 sqft. Also, I don't think the building is 40% vacant. Every floor from 15 up to 41 is occupied, perhaps not completely, but at least half of every floor. And I think B of A has people on 3 and possibly a couple ot...

Re: Jimmy John's to open Drive-Thru restaurant at 9th & Broa
Had lunch at the Majestic today -- its owner is livid about the closed sidewalk and the drive-through plan for Jimmy John's. The front of the building is completely down now, the rear by the alley still intact. The waitress at Majestic indicated that JJ's will actually have two curb cuts, the inboun...
