KC's Local Music Scene
Just a note confirming the earlier posts. Jilly's is giving up on bands entirely after the owner has tried to showcase local talent 2-3 nights a week for three years. KC just won't support it. Yep. Makes me want to cry and scream and kill all at once. Some of the bands are GOOD, people! :x :...

Like Jilly's?
Well, I was just teasing, but it is not "all the same" except, perhaps, to the audience. I've never met a DJ who was a musician or songwriter, although I'm sure there are some. It's a totally different set of skills and talents.

Stadium financing ideas
Yep. Eastern Jackson County: roads, trails, parks, houses, roadhouses, and trailer parks. It needs to save some of that capacity for other county-wide needs like roads, trails, parks, etc.
925 Grand
Well, you know. Keep trying to capitalize on a Good Thing until you utterly destroy it. That's the American Way.

I love Jilly's, but I hate DJs.
Shameless plug: You can see The Sham at Jilly's this Saturday, and again on Feb 8th (that's Fat Tuesday) when we release our second disc.
Come see people playing "musical instruments"! Just like your parents did, and your grandparents before them!

Move the Royals downtown, and fix up Arrowhead. Bulldoze Kauffman, and maybe several years down the road, build a new football stadium in its place. QED. That would be pretty cool. Turn the old Arrowhead into a big ass football museum / publicly useable football field / Lamar Hunt shrine, something...

Woo-hoo, no bounceback yet! Thanks, KCP.
Scratch that, it came back. It was just slow.

The column really bugs me because it's fairly obvious it's the Chiefs that were pushing the angle and passing it off as an independent columnist. Yeah, I felt the same way. But I don't really understand why the Chiefs would care what happens to the Royals. Unfortunately, my e-mail to jrand@kcchiefs...

Sent an e-mail to Rand: Mr. Rand, Your argument against a downtown baseball stadium has some fundamental flaws which I would like to point out to you. First, your assertion that the Truman Sports Complex is "well-located" boggles the mind. The Complex was located where it is presumably bec...

Why The Public Should Not Pay For Convention Centers
Interesting. I've always wondered if our collective investment in Bartle and its various expansions truly are/were worthwhile investments (in the opportunity cost sense). Conventions certainly have the potential to bring in a lot of outside revenue, but it's almost impossible to measure it in any me...

KC's Local Music Scene
I have only experienced Chicago's as a musician, and it is easily 100x better than KC's. In Chicago, each suburb or geographic group of suburbs (north, west, etc) have their own little scene, trading shows back and forth with bands in other burbs and in the city. We played at a coffeeshop / bar in a...

From everything I've seen, Omaha's scene is "better" not so much with regards to the quantity (or quality) of artists, rather the quantity of people who go to shows and the amount of local pride Omaha residents feel for their scene. It's a lot more like that in Lawrence than KC. Getting pe...

Great idea. Any such organization would probably be considered a political organization, and KCP may want to sort of split it off from this site (or not) but if so, I volunteer to front the costs for a domain+hosting, and I'm willing to do any web design and database work as well. I submit as names:...

The state line exacerbates the problem, but I think we see similar symptoms 'cause it's ultimately the same disease.
