I noticed the chopped down trees along 17th when going to Bluebird yesterday as well. It's a pretty dramatic difference, so frustrating.
Unsure if there are replacements planned?

Re: Sporting Kansas City
I still don’t understand the appeal of an Urban MLS stadium. An avg 19,000 attendance for 17 days of activation plus a handful of other cup games and concerts. So let’s say a comfortable 30 events. How does that somehow justify the land area taken up in an urban area? I don’t see this as being much...

Re: Historic Old Northeast
I've been watching that parcel for several years hoping a developer would do a project there. Its location is near bus lines, and close to a bank, CVS, Family Dollar, and a grocery store. There are a couple of other parcels nearby that need to be redeveloped. Yeah, that is a great site for a right-...

Re: Oxbow NKC (18th and Swift)
It sounds like McLain's Bakery will be opening a location in NKC in the retail space at The Oxbow. Having grown up on their chocolate drop cookies at the original Waldo location, this makes me happy. I think they'll do well in NKC. The space is still completely unfinished from what I can tell.

Re: OFFICIAL - Ashland at River Market
This looks great. Does seem like perhaps a missed opportunity for rooftop deck/pool/common area, although maybe this is part of the plan and not visible in the renderings... Let's get it built! Edit...would appear that common area is in the U-shaped courtyard at the rear of the building. Works well ...

Re: I-70
I guess I'm late to this. I ran across the preferred alternative for 70 from Paseo to US-40. https://www.modot.org/sites/default/files/documents/J4I1486D_Updated%20Preferred%20Alternative_2022-12-30.pdf I find it interesting that they would do all that reconstruction and would not make the entire c...

Re: NFL Draft
I swapped back and forth between ESPN and NFL Network broadcasts last night (and the Bootleg Football livestream on YouTube for the detailed pick/scouting info) and thought the city looked amazing. The coordinated lighting between Union Station facade, Bloch Fountain and Liberty Memorial frontage wa...

Re: Brookside
Twin Oaks lasted well beyond the early 1990s, if memory serves. I seem to remember them still there in the early aughts, prior to demo and construction of the ill-fated replacement structures. Really hope UMKC pulls together something special here with a mixed-use plan + Roos arena at the streetcar ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
On a positive note, the Hilton hotel looks much better. At least from a distance. It does look cleaner, but I kinda miss the pink of the Sheraton Suites...it tied in a *little* better to a modern Spanish-y feel. Yeah, I've been thinking this too. Not a fan of the newly whitewashed Jack Henry/"...

Re: 12th and Broadway site: RFP for mixed use
Fang, I think the bend in the building opens up a nice view back towards the original HQ building from the intersection, kind of tying them together. My bigger concern than the design is just getting this building (or anything on this site, really) built in a timely manner. Hopefully the CPKS deal p...

Re: West Bottoms Redevelopment
Nothing against 5-over-1's and the added density they bring. They are the current urban default for good reason and can be made quite attractive. It's the demo of the Weld building that bothers me here. It's one of the survivors down there, and it's sense of scale and history will be lost. At a mini...

Re: West Bottoms Redevelopment
Lame. What happened to using the prior mentioned architect of record, S9 https://s9architecture.com/work/ ? Demoing (paid by city no less!) Weld Wheel for another generic 5-over-1 is offensive, and combined with the lengthy theoretical timelines on the overall build-out, has me questioning Somera Ro...

Re: NFL Draft
The stage is as colossal as the station. Is this a long term re-usable item for US that can be used for future events or a rental by the NFL? I believe I remember reading that the stage setup belongs to the NFL, and some version of it is used for the draft each year. Will not belong to Union Statio...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I would have been mad if someone built a stadium that looked like that in 2008. Somewhat agree re: retro trend. Kauffman has set the precedent for a modern park here, whether or not the faux-retro look is played out. The exterior brick facade in those renderings looks like the Mets Citi Park, no? W...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
Yeah, reading that Star article recently about KCATA and Frank White III is embarrassing and enraging. It appears to make a mockery of both their hiring processes and ongoing management. I have little hope for the agency or major transit improvements (or successful development of 10th & Main!) u...

KCTV tower at 24:00. Wow! repurpose that as world's tallest Free Fall Tower ride We have GOT to get that thing lit up again. It's so central, so tall and such a visible regional landmark. I'm surprised this isn't brought up more often. I wish the Power the Tower campaign from 2018-ish would come ba...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
Reading through the mayor Q MCI thread, the majority of issues reported seemed related to lack of staffing and/or maintenance. The vast majority were bathroom sinks not working, bathroom soap dispensers empty, not enough/overflowing trash cans, dirty/scuffed floors and carpets, and the arrivals traf...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
Man, full new garage (6,200 spaces) seems hard to believe if the total capacity is available. I think each of the old terminal garages were around 2,000 spaces and only B ever really filled up in my experience. Need variable pricing in place.
