Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
Funk is wasting his time with Kansas. I talked to one of my political friends over there today and he said there's next to no support for light rail from the JoCo mayors because their constituents are against it. He said people are worried about an influx of low income people. I think that's reta...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
By the way, I heard a rumor today that the P&L District might not open until after the first of the year. Has anyone else heard this? Or is this a bad rumor? I'll be more than a little ticked if they don't open at least part of it when the Sprint Center opens.

Re: My home on 11th & Grand
I think people feel safer on the Plaza because there are more people, but I've always heard the crime rate there is higher than downtown. I think they found a body on Brush Creek in the last month or two. I'm guessing crime will increase downtown as more people come down there, but it won't bother...

I had not heard anything about the shooting. Any idea why it happened? Was it a robbery? Or a dispute between people? That's certainly unfortunate.

Re: Grand Opera House, 710 and 711 Main to be razed.
As far as the opera house, I haven't seen demolition start yet, but I think the parking garage to the west (across Main) is being torn down. They had stopped mid-stream with that demolition and I was thinking that it was all owned by Tower Properties. I'm guessing the opera houses days are numbered.

Re: I am falling in love with this town!
Yeah... i think once the P+L district opens and gets some national attention with the Big 12, some people in KC will realize that we have a downtown outside of the plaza and start to look in the area. My prediction in that next year will be a good year for condo sales downtown. I certainly hope the...

I like Houlihan's, but I don't think they're the best businessmen/women as they've declared bankruptcy twice I think.

The Manhattan might have a unit left that would hit her price range.

Re: Downtown Parking Situation-The Star
I did the calculations using the 2006 tax forms off the internet. I assumed the taxpayer took the standard deduction. That assumption favors Kansas since Missouri lets you itemize social security taxes and Kansas does not. I did the calculations based on a single person. One big difference is that ...

Re: Downtown Parking Situation-The Star
You do realize that state income taxes are considerably higher in Kansas than Missouri. If you want low taxes, your office should move to Lee's Summit. You get the low Missouri taxes while avoiding the KCMO earnings tax. As I mentioned above, some of the people live in Kansas, that's not helpful......

Re: Downtown Parking Situation-The Star
i guess my point was that if exising buildings are being valued much higher, shouldn't that make the market re-evaluate the revenue source of surface parking? for example, surface parking lot #1 generates $5,000 in fees, but could now sell/lease that lot for new construction and make $10,000/mo.? o...

Re: Downtown Parking Situation-The Star
I don't think it will have any affect on surface parking lots, unfortunately. A surface lot just isn't a big tax generator and they'll be seeing increased use with the Sprint Center opening. They'll be able to handle whatever tax increase they get.

Re: Impact of Cordish developments on local businesses in other cities?
The TIF doesn't benefit the new P&L businesses at all. They get a shiny new building and new streets, but they're paying some of the highest lease rates in KC. Businesses on the periphery of the district like Willie's have a huge advantage in having almost the same location, but a fraction of ...

Re: What downtown businesses do you use most frequently?
I go to Scooters, Cellar Rate, and the City Market the most often. As far as other bars and restaurants, I eat out a lot, but I usually try to spread my business around.
