Re: Rankings, lists, and such
http://www.ewgateway.org/pdffiles/library/wws/wws2011.pdf This is a study of the St. Louis region by the "East-West Gateway Council of Governments." There are a lot of lists and rankings in the report comparing STL to other large cities, including KC, on various metrics. Some interestin...

Re: The Star: Pull Union Station out of mediocrity
isn't union station now making a profit? the last several exhibitions have exceeded expectations and i think have covered expenses.
if so, would seem that US is no longer 'mediocre' and deserves a new thread.

Re: OFFICIAL - 909 Walnut construction
according to last report last fall, 909 is still rental. didn't realize it changed... http://216.119.82.16/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/2010-Housing-Data-Sheet-3rd-Quarter1.pdf btw, the report says rental occupancy downtown was 93-95% last fall for rentals and 87% for condos. I didn't know condos we...

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
the downtown council needs to put out another survey to residents on what they want. so far they got the market and it's a success. if they do another survey, someone may jump for the number one item if that's what downtowner's want. is likely to easier to find what can succeed with this method tha...

Re: Kotkin: Young people will leave the city for the 'burbs
although fewer people are getting married and having kids. the article is probably correct that downtown kc won't be a condo market, but it will be a rental market as more 20 somethings want to be there than before. the plaza will continue to draw condo dwellers which is generally not the suburbs,...

Re: Polsinelli Shughart HQ @ 47th/Broadway
My sources, disguised as office cleaning persons and window washers, have informed me definitively that PS will not move to KS and will in fact build a new ugly building that will garishly display their name, downtown. and if this turns out to be true, highwoods in protest will tear down the neptun...

Re: Post Office Closures
The Feds need to think creatively and make these cafe/coffee shops... that are still functional post offices as well. Would provide more income and perhaps more usage of those POs.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
glad to see this building saved but even better is that there is a momentum of downtown residents who are now impacting things that happen downtown. that's the much bigger deal here. downtown as a community is maturing.

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
It's hard to decipher what it means. Is very strange they show $32M import from KC in 2001 but only $1.6M in 2009. So if true, KC is not top 10 import for NYC anymore.. it was in 2001. Sounds fishy though. Previous studies show KC gained from NYC. Appears KC is continuing to gain from Chicago, w...

Re: Plaza riot?
In other news... we saw a movie last night (late Sun night) and was surprised how busy the Plaza was. The large theater was over 70% full, not bad for a late Sunday and for a movie that's been out for weeks.

Re: fringe fest 2011
well it's an opinion more than quick judgement. kansrocksass is a pretty dumb name as most agree... fringe the fest itself is great. it's an opportunity to try different things w/out worrying about a long run. it's an effective way to experiment and show off the breadth and depth of the scene. k...

Re: fringe fest 2011
they should also rename it. while some of it is 'edgy', is only about 1/3 of the shows if that. needs a name that reflects 'experimental' and mixed performance art rather than hey look at us trying to be avant garde. fringe is basically an overstatement and is too literal even it if were. it need...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such
The ranking of 27th for travelers probably means people who visit KC via air, not the total passenger count of the airport. In terms of total passengers, KCI ranks 32nd. It would be better to see the total cost of a visit (rental car/garage/hotel/typical hotel restaurant bill) per day rather than j...
