Congratulations to James. He was not my choice but I hope he does well.
Lucky for him, Funkhouser set the bar is so low that it's hard to think that James wouldn't be an improvement.

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Voted for Burke. Funkhouser was the underdog the last time and it didn't work out well for us.

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Sly sounds enthusiastic. In my opinion, however, you just can't overlook Burke's experience. Mike is ready to work from day one. I worked with him on a project a while back. We were on the same team. we were focused on an issue that I thought was critical. Mike's ideas were revolutionary. Not...

Re: Missouri Earnings Tax Initiative, Proposition A
During an economic downturn, it's fine to expect government to stop living like it was 2006. Revenues ate down. It is wrong, in my opinion to expect city government to cut its expenses and eliminate such a huge part of its revenue. There have been drastic cuts in Kansas City since 2009. Revenue ...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Can you please think stuff through? There are parts of Kansas City that are within Clay and Platte cos. The city has many multi-jurisdictional funding agreements with all of these counties for various projects. Do you think Clay and Platte would ever make any deals with a government that is domin...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
I always thought that Schulte was the man for the job from my dealings with him. The thing, though, that tarnishes him, that makes me question his ability is the way the recent lawsuit by the terminated budget analysts came out. His choice of words (you are not on the list) to them were not ones ...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Dude, I don't give a shit who you vote for. I'm not trying to "win you over." I'm simply commenting on the perceived idiocy of your voting criteria for the local mayoral race; ie "political experience." Just my opinion. Like I said, every great politician and every great leader...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Political experience, to me, is about working with allies and adversaries for the good of the community or to advance good public policy. This discussion made me look a little bit into Sly's past. He is a lawyer. A mediator. Somebody who has rallied people to get things done (although his literat...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
Let's assume Sly can hack it. He offers no reason as to why he'd be better than any of the other candidates. Lack of experience disqualifies him, in my mind. The fact that others were able to rise doesn't mean that Sly will. In fact, the road is littered with people who failed because of lack of ...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
It just occurred to me that people think funkhouser's time as auditor counts as political experience. Hardly. He probably had to work his employees over how to split the lunch tab. But that's about it. Funkhouser is the clearest example of why somebody like James without experience should not be...

Re: 2011 Mayor's Race
You all need to look at Sly more. IMO he is hands down the best choice. Great cheerleader for the City (which is the most important part of the job in a weak mayor system) and doesn't have the baggage all the other viable candidates have. sorry kid. Sly has no political experience. He will get...
