Downtown New Residential Units

I was trying to come up with a comprehensive list of Downtown new residential units. 5,853 total new units completed/under construction/scheduled to start (2016-2018). River Market West (137 units) https://images1.apartments.com/i2/3qQ6CBQ_sMS4bMSYWYWidyPsnA2pbB_cSqvO1Ne04hs/118/rm-west-kansas-city-...

Re: Some downtown conceptual/potential projects

Renovated buildings can be bought and demolished. Imagine the PR of the city tearing down a building that got tax credits to save in order to build a baseball stadium. anyone against big government handouts would gravitate to the irony of that Especially when there are 3-4 other and better sites wi...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Neither place is a place for a huge parking garage, especially when we have in excess of 100,000 parking spots downtown. We haven't even scratched the surface to need new parking. And yet according to the Downtown Summit, companies looking to relocate don't think that's entirely true. kcjak Can you...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

We're not building for today's environment, we're building for 50 years from now. I can't disagree more - that's total BS. If you don't like the idea of putting the garage at 7th & Walnut that's fine. But you're just coming up with negatives that are senseless just to argue? Your first comment ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Actually the north loop going down would be required for Kauffman II and would still have I-35 access from the west and 69 access from the north and would build in parking needed in the current cavern. I don't think it's the best spot for it but I wouldn't be against it. I wasn't aware of that as q...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Yet again, the city can not make someone build something specific on their private land to meet any specific standard. The can't force, but the city can work with a developer to make it happen, just like the 5th street location is doing. Why is placement at one streetcar stop more desirable for car...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

There's more chances to build something of note on your highlighted spots than next to the city market. No, there's not. Maybe in the bright shining future in your head, but absolutely not right now, and not any time soon. I agree as there are several lots abutting just like it that have sat empty ...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Putting a new garage on 5th street is going to cause headache traffic congestion and eliminate a vital spot for residential/retail. It doesn't need to be right next to the City Market, it needs to serve the City Market. This would be the best block to build a new parking garage serving the City Mark...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Wouldn't it be great if a resurrected Jardines Jazz restaurant/club or similar restaurant went into the old Houstons location? Jardines was packed every night and served up live music 5 nights a week. Besides the coke-snorting non-local owner (she spent most of her time out of town), the only other ...

We need 2 things:

1) Start date as Three was promised to begin construction before Two Light was completed.

2) Newest rendering with details.

I spoke with someone from Cerner this week at lunch. I know the guy pretty well. He is a former MO politician, lobbyist and is now with Cerner. He lives in Belton, I won't mention his title but he is a C level player and reps Cerner nationally and internationally. I mentioned the idea of Cerner doin...

Re: Does the Plaza need a drastic change or on the right path?

What is this constant obsession with turning streets into pedestrian only? Turning 47th into a pedestrian only street is ridiculous. It's a fine street, just fix what's wrong. Slow traffic down. Start giving out tickets, better signage, there's a multitude of things that can still be done. Closing i...

Re: A vision for 8th St between Main/Broadway as pedestrian only

I thinks is a poor idea for 8th. 8th Street is fine the way it is. Downtown has so many issues still that are infinitely more compelling than this. This is something that could be considered for the north interstate loop grid, if it is ever demolished and brought back to life with a master developer.

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

A 13 floor KU Hospital tower had $237 million in construction costs. Was that just greedy hospital executives wasting money? or maybe commercial and specialized uses cost a lot more than residential developments? I mean you have seen the quality of glass they used on one light, right? See this is w...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

The state, in fact, did not balk. Grietens did, for reasons unrelated. Comparing the 2 projects on lump sum dollar figures is pretty silly. The state isn't going to help. Game Over there. And comparing the 2 projects on lump sum dollars is not silly at all. What's silly is pretending that pianos, a...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I didn't call anyone a huckster, many others here have spewed hatred and called out Greitens in judgement. I want the Conservatory to move downtown. They want to build the very finest facilities in the country to call attention to UMKC's programs and to attract the best student and staff talent - I ...

Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown

I just can't wrap my head around the cost. What about this project says $96 million when i look at something like one light which cost about $17million less. I'm assuming this includes operating costs and other miscellaneous costs that a university facility would require and a luxury high rise woul...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Don't forget that on the left of these (west) 3 towers there is going to be another blocky, glass, -23+ floor hotel that will complete the front "wall." I'm in no position to judge but I do hope the decision-makers keep all of these things in mind when planning Three and Four Light. Four ...

Re: KC's quirks and oddities (keep it fun)

Good idea for a thread! Not many say Missourah but some of the older ones do. Do you say Mississippah? Would you hail a taxah? I think the confused pronunciation goes back to the original native tribe. As people settled Missouri from the east they learned different ways of pronouncing the state name...
