Re: El-Jay's
The last few times I've been, there were fewer than three customers sitting and probably less than 4 walk-ins during the hour I stayed. Great place for a Hookah bar though.

Re: Cafe Italia Closes
I believe the propper pronunciation of the place was "Ka-Fay Eye-Tal-Ya." Place was equal to a pack of Martha Gooch noodles and a bottle of Ragu...in my opinion.

Re: Cafe Italia Closes
I'm a northlander and I didn't care for the place. As you guys know, many Kansas Citians are neighborhood-driven, almost to fault. I think Cafe Italia survived as long as it did because there weren't a lot of options. Now that we've developed so many newer/better offerings Cafe Italia finally die...

Re: What can we do for Green. . .
I'm all for the environment, and perhaps legislative action encouraging action, but the current economy is not the best petrie dish for this experiment. Undoubtedly, costs will rise across the board, thus discouraging any perceived benefits the stimulus may induce. The earth is millions of years o...

Re: Cities Lose Out on Road Funds From Federal Stimulus
Not to mention the transportation bill in Congress will likely eliminate the Federal pot of money that has historically supplemented state DOT's. Basically, roads will be in disrepair for many years to come. Anyone know what time the train arrives?

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)
The convention business is NOT thriving. Of course this is probably due to the overall economic climate, but in the longer view continued high energy prices and their effect on travel costs will continue to impact the business. It has always seemed more than coincidence to me that Kansas City's ...

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)
We all love KC, but can we take a neutral step back and look at what our competition has to offer that we don't....a wide variety of experiences. Some have mountains, beaches, desert scapes, indiginous foods, unique and famous neighborhoods, infamous histories of wild parties, scenic views and movi...

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)
The biggest issue will be financing this beast. For the past decade similar facilities have been erected with municipalities financing/owning the lion's share of the debt/risk. KC is in no condition to bite this off. It's a great idea, but I hope some our resident shutterbugs are on-site when it ...

Re: Shoppers Parkade may be demolished
I've got a good, safe rule of thumb. Just assume that all citizens expect bright, innovative, and progressive city planning. Just assume that nobody expecects lazy, dull, and regressive city planning. ie, surface parking lots. The I expect you should expect some severe disappoinment. Shopper's ...

Re: Economy ----> Moving Forward
No way. The effects of the bad economy are merely amore pronounced version of what we saw post 911. Nothing happened for months, then the nation just decided to get on with its life. The same is currently happening. Lousy news for months and firms are simply recognizing the new/current reality. ...

WOW! The past few weeks have presented an unexpected turn for my biz (commercial/urban construction). Many of the tire kickers from 2008 are coming back to the plate and are ready to progress their projects. This is incredible and they're coming in droves. Just when I thought I should get a rope...
