Thanks for that fang. Kind of makes one's stomach churn -- especially the north loop. I'd love to know how Jonathan Kemper would justify his role as a lead for historic preservation with that much surface lot blood on his hands. I'm glad i'm not involved with either of those banks.

Re: New Convention Hotel talk
Gaylord did a nice job in Orlando. The hotel had various areas and multiple themes based on icons of florida like the Everglades, Old Key West, and St. Augustine, etc. It was a nice change to have something based on the cultural and natural parts of florida instead of the usual cheese of the tourist...

Re: Grand Opera House, 710 and 711 Main to be razed.
Does anyone know any stats as to how many parcels tower properties has downtown? I'm particularly curious to know how many surface lots tower has. If Kemper is going to use the argument that he has "walked the walk" when it comes to KC, it'd be interesting to see how many properties he's s...

Re: Valentine's Day!
Our original goal if the weather would cooperate is to go camping up at Weston, and try to have a nice quiet romantic dinner by campfire. But if temps are going to stay below freezing, we're considering trying the dinner at Phillips Chophouse, and then having dessert by the fireplace at home as our...

Roanoker, I gotta tell you that I absolutely love how you throw photos of food in on the pics you share. It makes me chuckle every time I see it. I get caught up in the photos looking at the vividness of the color, or the the contrast of the subject matter, and then...whomp! There's a big honkin' bu...

Re: Grand Opera House, 710 and 711 Main to be razed.
Tower Properties has not disclosed its plans for the Walnut site, though Kemper said Commerce needed employee parking along Main Street. More parking on Main? How much more does main need? Is the vast wasteland of surface parking on the north loop not enough? I love how in the articles posted by Fa...

Re: Kansas City = U.S. Tourist Mecca?
The only thing going for KC that makes it truly unique in the national eye is the jazz heritage. It's ironic that this city touts itself as the land of jazz and barbecue, yet we can't even keep a jazz station on FM radio. 18th and Vine is the key to making us a destination. Until this city embraces ...

I'm surprised they didn't open their sales office here in Wallstreet Tower. We have all this empty retail space that Townsend wanted to fill. You would think he would want to capitalize on his "success," and get people to see what he can offer as well as fill some of the empty space in thi...

My other half and I were there the same night KCLofts, (8:30 through opentable.com - great service). I have to second your sentiments. We split the prince edward island mussels and the crab bisque -- mussels were incredible, and oddly served with a combination of sausage and spices that really brou...

If you look at the web site, the clouds moving behind her image and the bartle hall sculptures look more like billowing smoke from a city in ruins.

Hosting a party at our place downtown. NYC for new years. Staying in Times Square (a block away, actually) the hotel: http://www.themusehotel.com/ We stayed here earlier this year when we went to New York for the AIDS walk. We really enjoyed the hotel, and the staff did a great job to make for a ni...

Re: what are your favorite elements in a restaurant?
My favorite element is one where the restaurant stays open past 2...especially if it's a limited menu coffee/bakery type setting. There are several spots around town i have yet to try only because their hours aren't very friendly to those of us who don't work in the loop. I'd love to see more places...

It's been awhile, but there was a cool little junk shop over near grinders (across the street) in the crossroads. Don't know if they're still around. Had some great pop culture treasures -- felt like you were sorting through someone's garage.

drive the proposed route and i can't imagine anything you'd miss completely. in fact, you'd be closer to the action in the plaza and westport, and you would hit every single item of interest in the south loop. if by "attractions" you mean "CVS", "times square video", &...

Re: Creative ideas for Penn Valley Park
For the anti-removal of broadway folks, we could put some major speed bumps in. Then set up some bleachers on the hill overlooking the road to watch as folks hit those puppies at 50 miles an hour. Wooh doggy! And hey, we get some city sponsored gambling action on that... there's a revenue source to ...
