Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
yeah pumpkin, I see your point and I'm not sure how the RM retailers might position themselves to play off of P&L, I think the important thing is that they try. With the booming success (and lines) of P&L, this is a key opportunity to expose a whole group of new people to additional nightli...

Re: OFFICIAL: Founders at Union Hill
not only is the incomplete part of this project a huge disappointment (especially for what I was hoping would be a booming Union Hill area), even some of the completed parts bug me. I had been meaning to post about the awful A/C units placed throughout the street front side of some of the apartment...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
the river market area needs to be better connected to the loop, that's a no-brainer. I'd like to see some of these businesses find creative ways to capitalize on P&L and it's success in bringing suburbanites downtown after-hours. Could be something as simple as bring in your Sprint Center even...

Re: Flying Saucer
so I checked out Flying Saucer last night; it's a pretty great place, as seems to be the consensus around here. I had a very good if smallish turkey burger with hot german potato salad and the Fire Sale (a different $2.75 beer every day, great idea) Shiner Bock, only because I am working my way thr...

welcome psalm! we can always use more beer nerds (knurds, as it were) around here. I'm glad to here Flying Saucer is shaping up to be as good as I was expecting. For those that have gone, how does it compare to a Yardhouse?

Re: Maker's Mark
regarding a shared kitchen - I don't think it is the kitchen that is shared among all of these restaurants, rather a large central food storage area (commisary, I think they call them). Vinino and Mcfaddens do share a physical kitchen, I believe, but I thought they were the only two. Correct me if...

Re: River Market - KC Southern Railyard Apartments
I wish the architecture for this project was more interesting and/or less suburban. Perhaps I'll be pleasantly surprised, but the renderings haven't really done much for me. It will no doubt do wonderful things for the RM, which is the important thing.

Re: UMKC Soccer Stadium
I agree jlb. I want to see as many concentrated assets as possible, and the Bannister Mall location simply can't provide that concentration. There is still far too much work to do in the core, and too many areas and open space that could have benefitted from a Wizards stadium and infrastructure ...

Re: Blogs about KC visits
thanks for the link Chrizow, there are some great comments following the mostly solid article. I'm not a big fan of all of the 'woe is me' KC is suuuch a car town, I just can't walk anywhere. The City Market, Xroads, Plaza/Museums and Brookside are all very walkable and completely connected by the...

Re: Aerial photo of the "New OKC"
wow that boathouse/aquatic park plan is sweet! The current boathouse is a really cool, modern building that I would love to have sitting on our riverfront. Is there really a market for this kind of rowing center on the OK river?

Re: So when do you grow out of college sports?
the big teams are a springboard into the pros, whether in the U.S. or Europe (with the hope of making it, eventually, into the U.S.) at least in bball and football. Now, if one wanted to argue that say, college baseball or hockey was great amatuer sport, or lower level, small-team bball and footbal...

Re: So when do you grow out of college sports?
The idea that NCAA D1 sports are in any but the slightest of ways more 'pure' than pro sports is a joke. I love that pro sports are guys working and playing the game for a living, which is exactly what college sports are but with an added pretense of innocence. Now, D2, D3 sports are more trul...

^^^^ as a Missouri Tiger and urban core resident, agreed. I've been pulling for KU for the last few weeks, b/c really, who else am I going to cheer for? Re: New Convention Hotel talk
well, if nothing else Grid, (baseball) stadiums can make downtown areas much more attractive to home buyers, and keep them in the collective hearts and minds of the metro area. The TSC does neither. Take for example Cincy, where Great America ballpark itself largely focuses on the 'cool' downtown ...

so...wow Blanc is awesome! I really like this place, and in my opinion it is a better, hipper Chefburger. Went for dinner tonight and had a Rogue ESB, one of the Unibroue (sp?) belgians (my girlfriend had it, or I would remember the name!) and the Inside Out burger. Gf had the Lentil burger. We ...

Re: What businesses does midtown need?
surprisingly, I hadn't thought about this until now, but yeah a Target and/or Best Buy at Midtown Marketplace would be much needed and awesome, and would help to justify it's massive footprint, wasted parking and the demolition of multiple square blocks of midtown density. I think midtown really ba...
